PlayStation Home to Leave Beta in December Getting There
   May 27th, 2010 clock image 2:30 pm

homeBeta

According to a guy who’s developed for Sony’s second life-esque service, it’ll soon be exiting beta – two years after launch.

“Home is due to come out of its beta-testing phase in December of this year,” said Kirk Ewing of Veemee, the company behind Home content for Audi. He was also quick to point out that despite what many believe, that Home isn’t “shit”.

“Most people think that Home is shit. I’m here to say that it’s not,” said Ewing, adding that over 1.7 million repeat users were using Home for just under an hour.

“One in three PS3 owners use Home. There are 1.7 million repeat users each using Home for around 53 minutes on average.”

There you have it. Home isn’t shit, and will be leaving beta in December. As somebody who’s tried home and found it to be void of any substance pertinent to my interests, I’d have no problem with it just leaving.

How many of you honestly use Home regularly? I ask not because I wish to make fun of you, but perhaps you can help me realise what potential, if any, the service offers.

Wii Peripherals Have gone Beyond the Ridiculous

Home is shit… so is Game Room.

  • Bobby Kotick is back!

It’s actually grown on me, especially checking out the mini-games on some of the latest released Home areas. On top of that I actually play a lot of the Salt Shooter game on Home, especially when I’m stressed for time and just want to play something.

I think it changed for me when I unlocked gear for my obese Home dude in Tekken and Street Fighter in Feb.

  • D4RKL1NG

Meh.The only thing people do is call each other ghey on that thing.

    • Bobby Kotick is not ghey

Weird, I just get weird folks asking me to play pool and bowl with them or pose for weird pictures.

  • Akairs

home is worthless. People spend 53 minutes standing around waiting to play a minigame before they get fed up and logout. This was one of the most disappoiting thing i have ever downloaded for my ps3. Been in since release and aside from more microtransactions to suck you dry they have added nothing of substance to the “game”

  • Al360rulz

i actually think its got alot of potential but 1 needs a 8mb line or something as there are many benefits but the lack of decent internet really kills the experiance.
on saying that they could’ve rather just made the benefits of home like the 360 menu and finish simpler is sometimes better :ninja: :ninja:

  • RSA-Ace

As South African’s it’s hard to understand why this would be useful just because of the bandwidth constraints and prices.

I think if BW was plentiful and cheap we might have a different opinion. I mean the fact that so many people seem to use it shows that.

While I do think of it as a failure (because I feel there is no use for it) I don’t think it is one for Sony. They seem to have made plenty of money from it, and the more money they make the better it is for us.
