I’m not as big an anime fan as I am with comic books, but even I have to appreciate the sheer scale of some of the fights I’ve seen in that medium. And a game that is pretty much a pub argument based on those fights starring several of those characters? Consider my enthusiasm to have gone full BANKAI then.
J-Stars Victory VS already has plenty of characters inside of it from maverick ninja Uzumaki Naruto through to mentally retarded pirate king candidate Monkey D Luffy. According to a scan from Shonen Jump magazine via AGB, the game will also be sporting a few new antagonist fighters in the form of:
- Frieza – Dragon Ball Z
- Madara Uchiha – Naruto
- Akainu – One Piece
- Makoto Shishio – Rurouni Kenshin
No word yet on whether they’ll be full fighters or support-based characters, but I’ll let you know as soon as I learn to read Japanese. Moving on, here’s a bunch of new screens to gawk at:
So far J-Stars Victory VS is looking like a pretty balanced game. Character transformations such as Ichigo using his hollow form or Goku’s death metal screamin’ Super-Saiyan power-up. The character roster is looking pretty massive so far now, and includes fighters from popular manga comics such as Naruto, Dragon Ball, Bleach, Toriko, Gintama, Medaka Box,Beezlebub and Saint Seiya.
Combat consists of up to four players going head to head in a stylee that is similar to Dragon Ball: Zenkai Battle Royale, with combat on a 3D arena field. The first player to score three knockouts wins a match. As usual, arena attacks and strategy will playa vital role. Which probably means that I’ll be headbutting my controller in a frantic attempt to win.
A release date of March 19 is on the cards for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita for this game.
