Man, the PSN sure does seem to go down for scheduled maintenance quite a lot, doesn’t it? Usually, it’s not much bother when it does; if you sign in before maintenance begins you can still join your friends online for a spot of Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, Call of Dooty or whatever else it is the hips kids are playing.

The last couple though, have nixed online play completely – and bad news for any of you who’ve made plans to play online tonight to get rid of some of those Monday blues is that there’s some scheduled maintenance going n this evening – and no amount of prior signing-in will let you join your online comrades.

“I’m here today to let you know that we will be performing routine scheduled maintenance on the network on Monday, April 16th,” says the PlayStation Blog. “starting at approximately 6:00 am PDT / 9:00 am EDT (that’s 4pm South African time). This maintenance will last roughly 13 hours, concluding around 7:00pm PDT / 10:00 pm EDT. During much of this time, users won’t be able to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, Account Management or play online. PSN enabled websites will not be able to service users, including this one (referring to the PSBlog).

"We will continue to provide as much information as we can regarding any future maintenance we need to schedule," Matthew Harper, PlayStation Digital Platforms senior manager added."Keep your eyes on the PlayStation Twitter feed for a notice when PSN is fully back online. We look forward to gaming with you all when the maintenance is finished on Monday night (Tuesday morning)."

Once again there’s no word on what new features we might expect from the network, if any – and I’m left once again hoping for better Playstation3/Vita connectivity. I’d love for more games to get Vita remote play features, because it’s starting to get quite cold – and would love do my gaming in the comfort of a warm bed.
