God of War developer hits out at 8 hour game suggestions Getting There
   March 16th, 2010 clock image 9:30 am

Kratos

The reviews for God of War 3 have been pretty much entirely positive with a ton of perfect scores and great feedback from all corners.

However one thing has been mentioned a few times that has annoyed one of the GoW developers. According to some reviews the game is only an 8 hour game which once again opens up the debate of whether that’s worth a full price game.

Personally I find 8 hours to be about perfect and have no problem with all games being that long, but this developer feels different and has come out and stated

“The one issue that has irked me is some reviewers are listing this as an 8hr game.  This is not an 8 hr game, the fastest play tester on normal mode took 12 or 13 hours during the final play through – the fastest!

I have no idea why or what the motivation is to put out misinformation.” (SantaMonicaKen)

He does raise a good point though, why would someone spread that sort of misinformation?

Maybe all the playtesters were rubbish at the game? A friend got a copy at IC this weekend and finished it in about 9 and a half hours.

Still, I don’t care, 8 – 10 hours means I’ll actually have a chance to finish it, given my limited gaming time.

Personally i don’t think 8 hours is long enough for a strictly single player game. If there’s multiplayer attached like Bad Company 2 then that’s fine as you’ll still be getting value for your money for months afterwards. But shelling out 600 bucks for an 8 hour experience is a bit much.

That said if I owned a PS3 I’d gladly do that for GoW3 :cheerful:

    [W] God of War III

it’s so short you can get a 2nd hand copy on launch day!

You do have to wonder if some people, especially some reviewers just rushed through the game really fast to get to the end. I find it very strange that they say 12-13 and other people are saying 8ish. Seriously, a pretty massive 4 – 5 hour difference there.

  • W1ck3D

Perhaps, the reviewers played through the game on easy mode.

  • mitas

    what’s the point in rushing???
Take you time , dam its R600 thats you paying for it…
any ways wanna have a blast , put in GOW 1 , 2 , then 3 and enjoy the ” BesT” trilogy ever….

  • V@mp

Personally, 8-9 hours is just about the magic number for
    me.Once in a while I’ll sit through a 15-20 hour game,
provided that it REALLY keeps my attention. So far the only games that managed that were Mass Effect 1 & 2
    and Fallout 3.
