Another World is being re-released…again

Eric Chahi’s seminal, surrealist adventure Another world (or Out of this world, depending on where you’re from) was one of the best games released in 1991. We’re on the cusp of the game’s 25th anniversary, but that doesn’t mean people don;t want to play the game’s 20th anniversary release again. Right? anyway, it’s being released on just about every console…save the Xbox 360, oddly.

According to a ratings board listing at the German equivalent of our own FPB, listing for the game appear for the 3DS, Vita, Wii U, PS3, PS4 and Xbox One in its 20th Anniversary Edition.

That version was released on iOS in 2011 – and has been released annually since, hitting Android in 2012, and PC and Mac in 2013. This year, it’s console gamers’ turn.

Pressed for comment, publisher The Digital Lounge said "We do not comment on rumours. Especially since everybody is now fully aware!"

Another world is one of those games that completely blew my mind when I first played it..even if I did spend the first hour or so being killed by weird stabby, poisonous leech thingies. The game was hard and the first time I finished it still sits in my head as one of my favourite gaming accomplishments. As for whether or not I want to actually play it again? I’m not so sure. the new version does come with achievements, new sound and a few difficulty options.

Another World was great, but Chachi hasn’t been able to replicate its success. Heart of Darkness was decent on the original PlayStation and even did decent business, but doesn’t have the legacy attached to Another World. Chahi’s last game, From Dust was released digitally by Ubisoft, and is a god game in the vein of Black and White and Populous.

I don’t think that this is very well known. The SNES version of The Lost Vikings 2 has essentially the same graphics as the first Lost Vikings, but there were also later releases that were much better. From Wikipedia :

“The sequel was originally developed for the SNES in 1997, five years
after the first game. The SNES version used technology very similar to
the original installment, with similar, cartoonish graphics and 16-bit
sound and music. Later releases (PC, PlayStation, Saturn) featured pre-rendered 3D graphics, CD music and extensive voice acting provided by Rob Paulsen (Erik), Jeff Bennett (Baleog & Fang), Jim Cummings (Olaf, Tomator), and Frank Welker (Scorch).”

The differences between the newer versions and the original version can clearly be seen : http://www.mobygames.com/game/norse-by-norse-west-the-return-of-the-lost-vikings/screenshots

Heart of Darkness ROCKED!! Just a pity that it was so sort 😛

At least the best platformer of all time (imo of course) has two things going for it
      1.) it’s fairly long
      2.) Its getting a remake =D
Guess what I’m talking about? 🙂

What was funny is that, it was a 2 disc game wasn’t it?

Heart of Darkness? Yeah I think it was 2 discs. Perhaps because of all of its fmv sequences, which I thought were awesome! Heart of Darkness, come to think of it, paid tribute to Commander Keen. Incidentally a (non FPS) remake/reboot of that series would be incredible!

          edit : “oddyssee”
Dangnammit! I thought I could spell it correct the first time “oddysee”. Its 2 ‘d’s and only one ‘s’. I can never get it right the first time
