GT6

We may have gotten the date a little bit wrong, but we all knew Gran Turismo 6 was being announced this month. And now it has been

At the event at Silverstone to celebrate Gran Turismo’s 15 year history, creator Kazunori Yamauchi will by then have announced that Gran Turismo 6 is, yes, indeed a thing. We know this, because we received a press release about it. You already know this, because you read about it earlier when it was posted from the future.

According to said press release, GT6 will be a PS3 game (so much for it being on the PS4 as well) that they say will “bring new levels of authenticity to ‘the Real Driving Simulator’ as well as introducing stunning new tracks and cars and a revised user interface.”

It’ll feature all the cars from GT5, along with a whole bunch more, bringing the total to 1200 at launch, with new cars coming in the way of DLC. Obviously. In addition to that, It’ll be getting seven new track locations  – including Silverstone, making a total of 33 locations with 71 different layouts. There will also be a number of new partnerships to make things more realistic, with Yokohama Rubber and suspension company KW Automotive both on board.

“It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,” Kaz reportedly said or will be saying. I’m confused.  “Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream.  We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform. However, we have refactored the game to make it very flexible and expandable, with a view to making many future developments. I am very pleased with everything about the new game and the new additions, but the launch will be only the beginning for GT6. The game will continue to develop throughout its life. I already have many ideas for things I want to achieve in the next 15 years of Gran Turismo!”

It’ll be coming to the PS3 in time for the holiday season – which is around the time the PS4 will be released. Odd that there’s no announcement for a PS4 version, because that would certainly help sell systems.

According to the same release, here is a summary of new Gran Turismo 6 features announced by Kaz:

New Game Engine

  • Refactoring
  • Compact, nimble operation
  • Flexible expandability
  • A new rendering engine that pushes the limits of the PS3

New Physics Engine

  • New suspension and kinematics model
  • New tyre model
  • New aerodynamics model
  • Technical partnership with Yokohama Rubber and KW Automotive

1200 Cars, abundant custom parts, and on-going DLC

  • From historic cars to the latest racing cars, the game contains a total of 1200 cars.
  • Multiple aerodynamic parts and custom wheels will be available for almost all cars.
  • Players can create their own personalised custom car in the game.
  • Cars will be continually added online

33 locations, 71 layouts

  • 33 Locations and 71 layouts will be provided from day1 (7 more locations and 19 more layouts than GT5)
  • More new tracks will continue to be provided online

New Course Maker

  • Massive scenery spanning several tens of square kilometers
  • A new course generation algorithm

Community/Club/Race Organizer

  • Players can form their own communities
  • Various community levels from local and domestic to global
  • Players themselves can create and manage their own online events

New User Interface

  • Balancing directional key operation and touch operation
  • Quick response
  • Shortening of loading times

Multi Device Compatibility

  • Playstation
  • Smart Phone
  • Tablet
  • PC

We’ll likely see and hear more about the game at E3 and Gamescom. It seems more like an evolution of GT5 to me than a full blown sequel, but we’d only really be able to make that judgment when we see it.

Not amazed by the launch trailer at all. Maybe the PS4 version will be better but Yokohama only do WTCC whereas companies like Kumho and Pirelli do DTM and F1. Time will tell but this looks mediocre and this coming from a GT5 fan. I’ll be seeing you people on GT5 then 🙂

The list of improvements show just how much was wrong with GT5. I’m glad PD have gone back and attended to the issues.

Love GT5 (enjoyed the whole GT range), but I wonder if the cars will EVER sound realistic though…it’s the one thing (in my opinion) that GT still hasn’t been able to do. They show you how they record the car sounds to make it sound real, but it NEVER sounds like it. NFS sounds better than GT.
Holding thumbs they get it all right this time round 🙂

1200 cars!? Woah, it’s like Pokemon but with cars. Gotta drive them all 🙂

But seriously though it seems like it could be a good game. As far as racing sims go, GT really is one of the most expansive of them all.

A Sony dev;d exclusive will NEVER go to PC, can pretty much assure you of that. If you think racing sim for PS, first thing you think of is GT. Dont think they’ll throw away a flagship title.
