There are some rather disquieting rumours that Grand Theft auto V will be delayed locally – particularly for those who’ve ordered a copy through some of our Cape-town based retailers. We’ve been trying to contact just about everybody involved. Here’s the deal.
As an attempt to stave of piracy and leaks, Rockstar has requested that copies of the game can only be shipped out on a specific date. All stock of the game is actually in the country on time, but because of those stipulations and the way things are shipped out, they might not reach everybody on time to people who live outside of main areas.
You shouldn’t worry though – everybody is doing all they can to make sure you get your game. We got this response from Kalahari – the retailer most seem to be worried about – regarding the situation.
We are receiving our stock first thing Monday morning, and we are dispatching all pre-orders the same day.
All customers in main city centres will receive their GTA V pre-order on 17 September, and outlying areas will take between 2 to 3 working days.
We are taking further measures to ensure that GTA V pre-orders are given the highest priority on Monday in our warehouse.
We have a GTA V task team to ensure that this process runs as smoothly as possible.
If your readers are still concerned, and they have pre-ordered with us, they can call our call centre to confirm their delivery time on: (021) 468 9200
This will obviously be a bit of a problem for those in outlaying areas who’ve pre-ordered and taken the day off work to play the game. As it stands, the only way to really, really make sure you have a copy of the game on release is to walk in to a store and buy it on release date, or attend one of the midnight launches.
Those of you who do live in major centres probably have nothing to worry about. We’ll update as we hear more.
[Update]BT Games has also responded, saying that they don’t forsee any problems with GTA V being delivered on time, barring issues out of their control.

Got to admit being partial to Kalahari. Back in the day I used TakeALot a lot(?). Love digital downloads, but for GTA willing to risk the pre-order.

use Takealot mostly, never had a hassle and they like 10km away from where i live so never bother with things being delivered just pick it up myself

got 2 controllers and the ps charge cradle thing, works like a dream, while 1 is being used the other is charging, never had empty batteries once and it beats the fuck out of charging with a cable!

That’s good news. I had a game delayed once, was supposed to get it on Friday & then only got it the next Tuesday. Had my whole weekend planned out. Granted it wasn’t a complicated plan because it only consisted of “play game” but still.

The reason we play games is for the games themselves, not for the last 5 minutes of ending them. One fails in a game hundreds of times before succeeding. It you won first time, what would be the point? The real secret is the enjoyment out of bashing your brains out trying and trying again and THEN and only THEN, winning. Diablo 3 also works! I’m just playing a demo on the 360, and it is seriously awesome! I get the full game from the demo at the cost of some customization things, but I will still be able to get to the end and kill Diablo!

I have kept a full week of my holidays just to play this game all next week.I don’t think they will mess up with deliverys with this,I reckon everyone will have it by Wednesday at the latest.As for next gen versions Im not so sure they will release this on ps4 but im sure rockstar has something up there sleevs for next gen to blow us all away when we get sick of gta v.

Ive never been to a midnight launch, but I am thinking of going. Do they only start selling the games at midnight, or do they start at like 10:30 so that by midnight they can go home. I just dont want to arrive at 12:00 and find I’m only leaving after 1:00.

Just contacted Kalahari.com. The dude tells me “The GTA V release data was changed and the orders will only be dispatched tomorrow”. So obviously I called Bull*hit. Told him that he must talk to someone that knows what they are talking about and come back to me. I also emailed him the link to this page. So I hold for about 4 mins while he gets his facts straight. Comes back to say that he “miscommunicated” earlier and that everything is still on track to be dispatched today. So if anyone is worried, everything still seems fine for delivery tomorrow if you live in a main centre. In this dudes defence, the internal communication is obviously shocking at Kalahari.com.
