E3! It’s not just a showcase for new games, it’s an opportunity for older, long in development titles to prove that they’re still alive as well! And it doesn’t get more long-in-development than the The Last Guardian, a game that Sony has been teasing since the start of of the PS3 generation! Except this year, it might finally be arriving.
Over on the E3 Insider site, Neogaf spotted a listing for the game. The Platform still says PS3, and that’s about it. But hey, it’s listed! Listed man.
The Last Guardian has been in development since 2007, with each successive year that the title has yet to appear, raising concerns for it. Back in February, team lead Fumito Ueda had this to say about the game, following his departure from it:
As some of you may have heard, I left Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio some time ago to pursue my creative passions. Nevertheless, I continue working on THE LAST GUARDIAN as a freelance contributor.
While it’s been a long time coming, THE LAST GUARDIAN remains under my creative supervision and is still in development by an incredibly talented team.
I should also mention that details regarding THE LAST GUARDIAN’s release is solely decided by Sony Computer Entertainment, not myself. Please keep an eye out for their official announcement.
Moving forward, it is my intent to continue my involvement with THE LAST GUARDIAN project, as well as pursue new creative projects with a fresh perspective. As I rekindle my passions as a creator, I look forward to seeing where it will take me, and I deeply appreciate your support during this transition.
There’s no doubt that the PS3 will be entering it’s twilight year with the Playstation 4 arriving at the end of this year. But if one of the final games for it could be The Last Guardian, it’ll be one hell of a send-off.

Why start the week with fairy tales!?! How many copies will they have to sell to cover 6 years worth of development?

I feel all alone in my belief that if this game is ever released it will be crap

You’re not alone in that belief. I feel that way too as well. 6 years of hype is a lot to live up to. But this game is kind of a manifestation of our feelings. A lot of people want to feel the things they felt when they played SoC again, and as such, myself included, we choose to believe that this will be an amazing game, and will be all we wanted it to be…maybe this game is better left as a dream. At least then it will be the best possible version.

nope, 6 years in development so far says it all.

I feel that’s somewhat justified if you haven’t seen Fumito Ueda at work. He’s a perfectionist, and that’s the primary reason the game is taking so long. The game
won’t be as technically masterful as SotC was, but it will retain the same emotional
edge as it’s predecessors. That alone is enough to be excited about. I’m in it for a
story that needs telling. If the gameplay isn’t as exhilerating as the SotC, or ground-
breaking as ICO, I’ll live.

Still having a think about that, it could be ‘orrible to read.
It could also be difficult to enforce.
*was thinking of making this the challenge*
Or what do you think? We have until 12 to decide

Well for me its like eating cake. Its all nice the first few weeks but one day you wake up with stage 2 diabetes. That’s why I alternate between CoD (cake) and battlefield (cake but with sweetener (still cake but does not taste nearly as good)).

The Last Guardian AND Versus XIII? I don’t really know what to say to that. I’m sure there’s a brilliant joke in there somewhere. I’m just feeling kind of numb about the whole thing.
