Ken Levine’s BioShock Infinite is coming later this year – and it looks to be an incredible experience that could rival the first game. And though – from what we’ve seen so far, anyway – that Columbia, the city in the sky, has a unique atmosphere – I’m not sure  it’ll quite compare to the dystopian deluge of Rapture. Andrew Ryan’s failed attempt at rebirthing society could – in the right hands – be turned in to an amazing film – but it looks like BioShock fans might have to wait quite a while for that to happen.

To tide you over until the new game is released – and some positive news on the film comes –  here’s an rather entertaining BioShock short film, deals with the events that took place in Rapture just before the first game on that fateful New Years Eve, 1958. Watch this, and be amazed at what fans are capable. Increasingly, it’s talented fans that are best able to bring video games to life in video. Hollywood, though it has the budget, just can’t seem to get the artistry right.

According to the site, this short  is set “Preceding the events of BioShock 1 and 2, this short gives a look at a very significant event in Rapture’s history. In the lowest parts of the city, a small group of splicers have something planned that will change the course of Andrew Ryan’s vision of utopia.”

BioShock and its sequel are available right now on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC – with BioShock Infinite headed to the same platforms in October.
