Two ways to play Dead Space 3

I’ve resigned myself to the fact that Dead Space, a series that really looked to take the Survival Horror mantle has taken on a more action-bent. I’ll lament the fact that it’s gotten less scary, but really can’t complain if EA and visceral deliver a bloody good game – and it certainly looks like that’ll be happening.

They’ve released a new trailer showing a bit of how the co-op works…and I’ll admit that I’m more than a little intrigued.

“If you’re playing single-player, the story has characters that come and go, and Carver is one of those characters,” Visceral’s Steve Papoutsis said to Polygon. “In single-player, you don’t have an AI follower. No AI follower. It’s just Isaac, and other NPCs come in and out of scenes.

“You get pieces of his story in single-player, but you get more details of his struggles with dementia and his family and backstory in co-op.”

Sounds like it may be worth playing through this baby twice. Papoutsis also revealed that the game will be getting Kinect voice support, similar to how it was featured in Mass Effect 3…meaning it’ll be close to useless.

“The voice commands in Dead Space 3 give players a unique way to take down the terror, whether they choose to face the Necromorphs alone in single-player, or alongside a friend with drop-in / drop-out co-op,” he said.

I’m not sure it’ll work too well..unless shouting out something like “Oh Shi…!” equips your very biggest gun.
