Earlier this week Bethesda, developer and publisher of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, tweeted a vague picture of a scraggly-haired man that many assumed to be a Nord – one of the races within Syrim’s huge open world, with a hint of something to come. Many speculated it would be the revelation of some shiny new DLC for the dragon-slaying RPG. A new trailer released yesterday reveals it to be something far, far more interesting.
Take a look at Dishonored, the new first-person neo-Victorian action stealth game with steampunk sensibilities. There’s a mere hint of actual gameplay in this story-focused trailer – but from the sounds of it, it could be pretty amazing, blending the gameplay styles of Assassin’s Creed, Mirror’s Edge, Deus Ex and Thief. Now, before you Bethesda haters starts going on about it’ll promise things and end up sucking, it’s worth noting that it’s not developed by Bethesda, only published by them. Arx Fatalis’ Arkane Studios are handling development duties, and luminaries like Harvey Smith (Deus Ex), Raf Colantonio (BioShock 2, Arx Fatalis) and Viktor Antonov (Half-Life 2).
Keep an eye on this one. It’s hitting PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 later this year.
