The Last of Us is getting its own Dualshock

52 second read

I’m a bit of a fan of game-themed controllers but I have to be honest I simply never buy them. I just couldn’t justify paying so much for a game and a controller. I mean I was in Pick n Pay the other day and they were selling Dualshocks for R899. R899 for the worst controller of the generation? I think not.

But if I was forced to buy a new controller then this new one that is launching in Japan alongside The Last of Us would be close to the top of my shopping list. Strangely it has absolutely no Last of Us branding on it but the metallic grey is subtle enough not to be a problem and different enough to stand out when you reach for controllers.

How about you, are you a fan of custom controllers like the one above or gaming-themed ones like this Tomb Raider controller?

OVG got one. I had a look at it on Sat. We couldn’t reach a decision on how they got all the scratches in. I opted for a sweatshop, he was more along the lines that a machine did it…

        Hahaha

Its cool though even if you land a few scratches of your own and some wear and tear it will make it even better looking

Yeah, but I think that plastic bandage on the left, where your palm sits, is going to breed some serious nasty shit…

“R899 for the worst controller of the generation?”

Hell no! Also, Blue Bulls suck, Mercs are for old people, chocolate milkshake is the best tasting shake ever, Black Label has no equal, only asshole hippy hipster buys Apple products and Coke FTW! This is all fact, because I SAID SO!!

Yeah, I like game-themed controllers, but I’ll never buy one extra. I will however choose a bundle with one included above a vanilla one.

lol, only a small minority hate the dualshock.

The controller-design has been consistently loved for well over 15 years. You just don’t change perfection. Incidentally the new controller, doesn’t actually veer to far from perfection either. The blueprint of pure, unadulterated controller awesome is still there, in its design DNA.

Gavin is just trolling; he’s just sour because Kinect sucks. 😛

Ja I know all about Gavin and his trolling (I’ve been around from your “Bobby” days!). I obviously will never take a guy that worships Gears of War, loves gaming on his iPad and buys dancing games for his Xbawks seriously 😛

Agree about the controller. I have both the consoles (Wii-U is a toy, not a console :P) and I honestly don’t get the hate.

The one part I do agree with the haters is that the controller needs to be just a little bigger, fortunately I’m hobbit-sized, so it’s not a problem for me, but I can see how the towering giants struggle with it.

Ahh you remember my Bobby days? That was some quality trolling… 😀

I have quite large hands and I don’t have a problem. I don’t however smother the controller with my hands, but grip it in the front part of my hands. I also use a mouse that way (the claw grip, not the palm grip).

What I HATE about the PS controller is those damn triggers, but at least Sony has realised that after 15 years.

But it depends on the game you’re playing though, I like the slip triggers for fighting games, but I agree for first person shooters, you have to grip it too tightly…

The Xbox 360 controller is easily the superior controller and I do despise the Dualshock.. the new PS4 controller however is looking awesome

I can’t understand the hatred towards the PS controller, but then again I grew up with the controller since the PSOne and probably don’t know any better. That being said I’ll rather opt for the top one than the bottom one. The way i play games my controller looks like that after about a month anyway.

R899? Sony’s beard!! Sounds to me like Pick n Pay and co were up to no good. By the way, I got a camo-coloured controller for R399 a while back. It’s quickly become my favourite dualshock.

I have a question for console guys:

Do you guys hate branded controllers as much as I hate branded keyboards and mouses?

Personally, I hate branded keyboards and mouses as much as I hate branded controllers. I like my camo-coloured controller, purely because it’s different, but I really hate to have branded stuff. I don’t even wear branded clothing.

Ugh, why should I pay to be a living breathing advertising board? Hell no!

HELL, the TR pad looks as clean as the popes hat when compared to how Lara looks towards the end of the game. Im not one for horse armor but I have had the same pad for 6 years and the hard plastic underneath the grip is cutting my thumbs (the one with the inbuilt cord).

The darn xbox will not break and I have been waiting for the thing to RROD like every other Tom, Dick and Harry so that I can upgrade from the fat 20gig to the slim.

So when I saw BT Games with the R200 TR pad bundled with the game I was stoked, but I was expecting it to come with a recharge cable 🙁 but beggars cant be choosers.

Nope Im sorry XBOX controller is still the most awkward piece of poop I have ever dared to use. PS controller has always been a solid favourite, thats why I got the logitech gamepads for my pc tomfoolery. The jump between the two controllers in the likes of MK and such was the difference between sucking with Lui Kang (imo kak easy to play with)and blasting anyone drunk enough to challenge at a house party with Shang Tsung (one of the more harder jugglers around).

The gun grey looks really nice, shame about no branding though, sure they could have given it a little something out the ordinary, just enough to catch the eye.
