[Update] Rugby Challenge is coming to South Africa?

[Update] We’ve spoken to the alleged possible distributors and it looks like somebody jumped the gun, as no distribution deals have yet been signed. As of right now, no-one is bringing Rugby Challenge into the country. As soon as we get official confirmation of anything, we’ll post it up.

It seems that after such a long drought, just one Rugby game isn’t quite enough. While we already knew that the officially SARU licenced Rugby World Cup would be hitting our shores, the fate of the other Rugby game, Rugby Challenge wasn’t so certain.

There’ve been drives on Facebook, Twitter and even here on Lazygamer.net to try and bring Rugby challenge to South Africa. Well, good news! We’ve received confirmation from a retailer that yes, Rugby Challenge will be coming to South Africa.

In case you were wondering why there’s a need for two Rugby games, here’s a simple break-down. Rugby World Cup 2011, as its name implies, is centred around national teams and the acquisition of the Webb Ellis Cup, and will feature licenced stadia and some licenced nation teams, including England and is the only game to feature licenced Bokke. Rugby Challenge has the exclusive licencing for the All Blacks, Wallabies and the USA Eagles, and while you’ll be able to don the green and gold, the player names will be approximations. Rugby Challenge will, however, include the ITM Cup, Aviva Premiership, and Investec Super Rugby.

Both games will feature player editors though, so with enough patience you can update each roster to be as accurate as possible.

Good news for Rugby fans if it’s true!
