PlayStation Now to launch with hundreds of games

IGN were given an exclusive insight into the upcoming PlayStation Now service at an event in America and have come out with some pretty spectacular information.

The biggest news is that the PlayStation Now service will apparently launch with hundreds of titles and is already heading into beta right now.

Sony have updated the information to say they haven’t specified exactly how many titles will be available when the service launches later this year in our Winter, the northern hemispheres summer.

At the event the journalists were given a chance to play The Last of Us on the PlayStation 4 over the Now network and apparently while there is a drop in fidelity the game is still beautiful and plays really well.

They also attempted God of War on the PS Vita over the network which played well which is a nice indication that the lag on the controllers isn’t that bad. However there is an obvious worry about how twitch games like Call of Duty or GT5 will handle over the network.

There is also the requirement of at least a 5mb ADSL line with a server farm within a reasonable distance. In other words it won’t work here. The first pricing details have also been released with the games expected to be rentable at between $4.99 and $5.99 a go. However they haven’t specified how long you can rent for so it is still not yet possible to say if this is a good price or not.

One other very surprising reveal is that the PlayStation Now service doesn’t have to be accessed from a PlayStation Device which opens up the possibility of streaming Flower or God of War to your iPad or Microsoft tablet.

    Why is this a surprise?

When they first announced PS Now, they announced that it’d be on non-PS devices, it looked to me, at the time anyway like Sony devices were simply being used as a test-bed, for stress testing the servers, and generally working the kinks out before launching on a much much larger array of devices.

It’s honestly a good idea, I mean, I never thought this service would mainly for PS4 owners, I thought it had much much more relevance to folks who had no interest in buying a home console but have a tablet, phone, TV etc…

Telkom? 2 months ago they cut over to MSAN at the exchange that services our area, and my 10meg line only works properly when syncing at 2meg. Telkom tech says they have no idea how to troubleshoot the issue and that the entire area is affected.

I know exactly how you feel. I had a 4mb line, used to actually get closer to 5… then one day it just became as unstable as all hell, dropping, unable to connect, and now it’s a 2mb line.

Now, Microsoft must give Sony the middle finger and get a way to emulate 360 DISCS and digital games on the One. Thumbs crossed. I believe it is possible. Don’t shutter mah dreamz!
