PC Gamers want Dark Souls. Will Namco Listen?

If there’s anything we’ve learned about internet petitions, it’s that they don’t work. Though they’re good at raising awareness amongst desktop activists, they have a habit of withering away to nothing, leaving their causes (just or otherwise) in the ether. Here’s one I hope gains a little more traction;

PC gamers have started a petition to bring From Software’s devilishly difficult Dark Souls – currently available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 – to their platform of choice.

Right now? Nearly 45 000 masochistic gamers have signed the petition to bring the brutal action-RPG – one of last year’s very best games – to the PC. This comes in response to some coy comments made by an administrator on Namco’s forums who, responding to requests for computer-bound version suggested a petition.

“There is always possibilities to have games adapted on PC and the good news is that Dark Souls is not a 100% typical Console game so the adaptation is possible.
Now to make things happen, let’s say the demand has to be properly done. someone to make a successful petition?” asked the admin, who goes by the digital alias of Shoupinou.

“When the number of people who actually sign it is low, this turn[s it into] a joke,” he continued.“But when it starts to involve thousand (sic) people, then it’s another story. Honestly, I think this is an interesting request and that it deserves to be pushed.

“Namco have no position for now on this topic: PC versions are considered for many games but as PC is rarely the lead platform for the games released by the company, making PC version very often depends on signs that could come from users or from market globally. Up to you.”

I sincerely hope Namco stands up and takes notice. Dark Souls is probably the most rewarding game I’ve ever had the privilege to play, and, thanks to the benefit of hindsight, shines as my stand-out game of last year, toppling the mighty (and mighty buggy) Skyrim from its dragon infested perch. Read our review and – if it piques your interest – head on over and sign that petition.
