4A games and new publisher Deep silver have released the minimum, recommended, and optimum specs you’ll need to play their impending underground post-apocalyptic shooter.
Here are the specs.

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 690 / NVIDIA Titan
For 3D Vision Support:
NVIDIA GTX 690
120Hz Monitor
NVIDIA 3D Vision kit for Windows Vista, 7 or 8
Those specs aren’t too ba…wait? Did they just suggest the ludicrous nVidia Titan for the optimal experience? You don’t say! Looking at the specs though, I suspect that Metro: Last Light is one of those games that’ll start off with the once ubiquitous “The way it’s meant to be played” splash-screens – something we’re likely to start seeing an awful lot less of in the future. With AMD powering next gen consoles, it’s a safe assumption that most games will be optimised for that that particular brand of hardware.
Here are the specs you’ll need to get the most out of the game if you happen to play on consoles.
- Minimum
A PS3 or Xbox 360
- Recommended
A PS3 or Xbox 360
- Optimum
A PS3 or Xbox 360
Oh, and here’s the most recent bit of Metro media, showing off the game’s Rangers.

Keep in mind that PC recommended is played across multiple screens at insane resolutions.

I don’t know so much. I’ve often seen that recommended specs really are what’s needed to run a game at a flat 60FPS on high settings.

Sorry optimum is across multiscreens. Reconmened is 60fps at 1080p.

I’ve always thought that games requiring insane specs are just poorly optimized. A good example is one of my favorite games, Company of Heroes. It can still bring modern PC’s to their knees when played on full, but only due to some poor coding.
Crysis 1 is another example of this. Far Cry 3 looks better, yet Crysis 1 takes bigger hits.
For example, Crysis 1 will render full, volumetric smoke on the horizon that adjusts to light elements and has full, realistic wind interactions. Call of Duty (weird example, hear me out) just puts an animated GIF. From where the player is standing, it looks identical.
Battlefield 3, which is still one of the best looking games on PC, requires 2/3’rds the Specs Metro : Last Light will and will probably look on par with it. BF4 might similar, as the engine is largely the same.

Dude, I just hope Last Light isn’t as badly optimised as the first Metro game was.
Checked some benchmarks. The game still brings down even a GTX690 to its knees. On 1080p on ultra the game runs at something stupid like 23FPS. That’s horrible coding on the original engine.
So let’s hope it’s been optimised properly.
The only reason Last Light needs such high specs for optimum, I am guessing, is most likely due to certain DX11 features such as tessellation. If turned off I think even the slightly lower end rigs will most likely be able to play it on high or Ultra depending how far off the mark it is from recommended. That’s what I am hoping anyway. It better not be the same issues that plagued the first game with turning up settings.
It’s the same issue with Arkham City. Turn off tessellation and suddenly the game gains like 30FPS

April 18, 2013 at 10:39
DX11 hasn’t been fully used by Devs and it’s almost always a hinderance. I played Arkham City on PC and DX11 + Tessellation was a nightmare. I turned Tessellation off and went to DX9, the game ‘swear to God’ was identical and ran 2x as fast.
A quick google of “Batman Arkham City DX9 DX11” shows countless people with the same experience as me.
I think the reason so many Devs don’t make full use of it is due to the fact that top range PC rigs make up… what… 2% of the people who are going to purchase your game?
Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew
April 18, 2013 at 10:43
I did the same thing. With Tesselation on I was getting roughly between 35 – 45 FPS on ultra with some slow downs during fights (down to the mid/high 20’s).
Turned of Tesselation and suddenly my game was running at 60FPS (VSynced) with no drops whatsoever and I also haven’t seen squat difference in the game’s graphics by doing this.

Hmmm, interesting points dudes
Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew
April 18, 2013 at 11:00
Yeah, also as a side note, this is all with PhysX turned up to max. So yeah, devs are still in the early stages of properly utilizing things such as tessellation in games and actually having it functional and streamlined.
I’d take proper physics over crummy tessellation any day

AndriyP
April 18, 2013 at 12:33
They definitely did, thats why the first Metro was so cherished by me when i put on the russian voice overs i fell in love with the story, the voice in the video is overdone with the accent but im quite sure he is russian
TechniKyle

OK, you confirmed my suspicion. I thought he was a Russian, just exaggerating the accent a little.
