Diablo III on console will be a “True Blizzard-level experience”

Am I excited for Diablo 3 on PC? Well, I would be if my current setup could handle it, as I have to regularly feed it coal in order to have a quick game of Minesweeper. But Diablo 3 on console?

That very possibility has me tremendously excited, and even though Blizzard has yet to officially confirm a console version of their anticipated sequel, much like Ridley Scott is being mum on whether or not his upcoming film Prometheus is a prequel to Alien.

It’s only a matter of time before we finally get some authentic word from the brass there as to when it will happen, but can Diablo 3 on a Xbox or PS3 console live up to the PC version?

Company COO Paul Sams certainly thinks so.

“We think that the way we built it for the PC may need some tweaking, but it will ultimately be the type of game that can really make sense and be really fun, well polished and a true Blizzard-level experience on a console,” Sams said to CVG.

We get a lot of questions about why we haven’t made a game for consoles before and I tell them the same thing I tell them about business models: we don’t let business models or platforms drive our decisions. Those are secondary to what’s the most important aspect for us which is the gameplay.

We have to make sure the game is great and it’s something that everyone wants to play. If we provide a great game, a great experience, the business model – if we’re being fair with you – will work.

Diablo III is currently scheduled for release worldwide on PC, for May 15 locally.
