Not too long ago, I told you that you’d probably never, ever play a DarkStalkers 4. While people have been asking Capcom for Darkstalkers for years, sales of the downloadable compendium DarkStalkers Resurrection have been less than favourable. Capcom’s pretty much confirmed that DarkStalkers as a series, is dormant as a result.
"Darkstalkers Resurrection did not perform as well as we would have liked to perform," Capcom product manager Matt Dahlgren lamented at Comic-con. "There is nothing Darkstalkers on the immediate horizon for sure," he added, hammering the final nail on DarkStalkers’ coffin.
His words echo those of the former Capcom VP Christian Svensson, who hinted that sales of the DarkStalkers re-release had not lived up to expectations.
“ I’m disappointed in the opening sales response relative to any other fighting title we’ve put out on the same platforms given the frequency and urgency of requests we’ve had here over the last several years and the quality of the execution.”
I’d have played the hell out of DarkStalkers game that utilised the Street Fighter IV engine – but it seems it was never meant to be.
