Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 brings back General Shepherd

We heard last week that the Call of Duty franchise was now expanding to a three studio development cycle which is great news for fans as it means this annualised franchise is now getting a three year development cycle which can only mean better quality.

And now according to onlysp.com some information about the next titles single player has been leaked and it definitely works for me.

The Day We Fight Back

Do you remember the scumbag General Shepherd from Modern Warfare 2 who betrayed you and your team? Well he’s back and worse than ever, granted SledgeHammer games have the slight issue that you killed him to work around but nothing as trivial as death has ever stopped a good story.

According to the rumours the SAS will also be returning as a major part in the game against Shepherds Shadow Company and we will also see the return of Nikolai who will also become a playable character.

The only two countries confirmed to be visited so far are The Netherlands where you will embark on a stealth mission in Amsterdam and China with a mission set in Shanghai.

It thankfully doesn’t sound like this campaign will follow an all out world war but rather me a more targeted chase of General Shepherd which has always been my preferred style of campaign.

However one of the biggest things about any Call of Duty campaign are the emotional turning points and this part of the campaign is still a very big secret with not a glimpse of an idea on what their main pushing point will be.

No release date for the game has been announced but you need to be a special kind of person if you are going to be surprised at it’s early November release date when it is announced.

So you have 9 months to get your next gen console as Activision have also confirmed that this COD is going to be the first one developed that is targeted at the next gen consoles and then ported back down again.

“Obviously in the console-transition year, anyone who developed a cross-generational game last year had to deal with the fact that the technology of the next-gen platforms was still coming into focus and changing quite a bit during the development process…. Now that we have the next-gen hardware out in the marketplace and solid, that is our primary development,”

So specifically to those who aren’t paid up members of the We Hate Call of Duty club, are you intrigued by the story line and does announcement that the game is targeting PlayStation 4 and Xbox One from the get go make you more excited about the game?

Just because you stuck a blade in his eye does not mean Shepherd was killed, you know!

Bringing back Shepherd may indicate that they want to focus on the SP portion again. I would look into this if the SP was longer and a bit more open. Also this would be the second MW game by Sledgehammer studios. I also took a look at the games Glen Schofield was involved in. I feel like Luke Skywalker when I say there’s still good in him.

Also what’s with Shanghais popularity? I thought BF4 already blew that city up?

It sounds like Sledgehammer have gone back to work on the previously ‘rumoured’ MW game that takes gamers back into the MW1 and MW2 history from a different view point. The one where we get to find out how Ghost became a Ghost and more on General Shepherd, this was meant to have been scrapped by Sledgehammer when they were put to work with IW and MW3…

Maybe it’s returned, the MW Ghost game (as in Ghost character)
