Sony details PlayStation 4 system update two point zero

Ps4

Sony made quite a bit of noise in its press conference about its upcoming PS4 system update version 2.0, and more specifically how the PlayStation 4 is getting a new feature in Share Play. It’s one of the neat features were were promised when the PlayStation 4 was originally announced, and now it’s finally a reality. Sony detailed it a little more last night.

It’s something they’re calling a virtual couch.

“With this first-of-its-kind feature, you’ll be able to play games with a friend just as if you were together in the same room. Let’s say that with games… you’ll be able to invite your friend online to play against the Miami Heat for the championship as the San Antonio Spurs in NBA2K, tackle the challenging Towerfall Ascension Quest Mode together, or aide, heal, and protect you as Igniculus in Child of Light’s local co-op mode,” Sony explained.

“With Share Play, you can even jump into a game to assist a friend. For example, if there is part of a game that you can’t quite finish, you can invite a friend to take over your controls. Like handing over the controller to a friend on your couch, your screen will be shared as your friend gets through the part of the game that has been giving you trouble—can’t get past that part in The Last of Us: Remastered when you’re hanging upside down? Get a little help.”

As Sony explained yesterday, the other player needn’t even own the game you want to share. It sounds like a neat application of the company’s Gaikai technology, though I can’t imagine it’ll get used all that much beyond testing it because it can be done..and for couch play for people who don’t have any real life friends.

What Sony didn’t mention about its new system update is just why the heck the PlayStation 4 is still incapable of the most rudimentary media playback.

If the boner can fix its p’s and have the 1TB HDD and have media playback, maybe, just maybe, they can turn this around

i figured this announcement was coming. At E3 they said that Far Cry 4 would have this feature.

But as the rest of you have said, rather give us BC and media playback. Heck, even a youtube and tuneIn app would be nice (unless that’s in other regions, but i don’t see it on the SA store)
