No “always online” requirement for PlayStation 4

Will the next generation Xbox require a perpetual internet connection, or will it work just fine for those without access? We don’t know – but we do know that Sony’s PlayStation 4 has no such connection requirement. Because Sony said so.

Sony president of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida has said that gamers would not need a constant internet connection to enjoy the fruits of the PlayStation 4, because the internet infrastructure is different around the world. In fact, it wasn’t even up for consideration.

“Did we consider it? No, we didn’t consider it," Yoshida in an interview with Gameinformer. "The main reason being that many countries don’t have robust Internet connections. It makes sense for people to have internet connections to play online games, but for offline games there are many countries that we saw [that] do not really have robust Internet.”

There you have it, PlayStation gamers. A perpetually connected console is just not going to be something you’re going to have to deal with.

Sony’s been exceptional at wooing gamers for the next gen, abandoning the unbridled arrogance that saw the company lose favour to Microsoft at this generation’s beginning. There’s a renewed focus on games, game developers and most importantly, gamers – and Microsoft’s going to have to work very hard indeed to recapture gamer sentiment.

I’d rather play CoD than allow Intel and Nveeedia in my box

As if your ACTUALLY MEDIOCRE DEVICES can even run CoD

            Cuz you don’t know 😛

Also, if you try to run CoD on AMD it comes up with error

Just pointing out that AMD is a brand not a spec, just saying. Now for the trolling, doesn’t the top intel and Nvidea product have better specs than the top AMD product at the moment.

The same way that using a W16 engine when a V8 would already be overkill

It was you who brought up the specs. And clearly as Awesome pointed out you were at least right about the Graphics card side.

Look, my gripe with Nvidia and Intel is that you have to pay more to get the same level of performance. I’ve had bad experiences with those two as well on multiple instances (except on servers, I don’t have preference there)

            May 8, 2013 at 13:26

Never really had a bad experience with intel. As for nvidea, who knows, never won the lottery so never had one. Just playing my troll for a day card.

Well Technically Speaking the 7990 IS more powerful than the Titan..

            http://videocardz.com/ati/radeon-7000/radeon-7990
            http://videocardz.com/nvidia/geforce-600/geforce-titan

            And at the same Price……

            May 8, 2013 at 12:06

Is that thing released yet, ok you may have me there, although how does it crossfire vs the 2 way SLI, for performance?

          • LordCaptainAwesomeness

            May 8, 2013 at 12:25

            Yes the Card is available.

Yes if you set up a 2 way SLI then it will beat the socks of the SINGLE 7990.

But do card for card comparisons, and the AMD will win.

*Disclaimer: If you can afford 2 x Titan’s or 2 x 7990’s, then are you really going to worry about the 20 odd frames, or the Power Bill?

Firstly, about time someone came out and said NO to DRM. Secondly, I am rather disturbed at my sudden shift in character to GarethV. I mean, I’m used to the other 9 characters in my head, but I don’t need more!
