Sony recently held a preview event for The Order: 1886 that we weren’t invited to. coverage from that event is currently embargoed, but it’s set to lift on the 18th of this month, so we’ll soon see a wealth of new information. In the meantime, one site broke embargo, publishing an interview with Ready At Dawn’s creative director Ru Weerasuriya, revealing a little more about the rather anticipated game.
In a now removed Play3.de interview, Weerasuriya revealed that the game will run at 30 frames per second, at 1080p. According to the Google translated (so excuse the broken, mangled English) interview, the game was never intended to run at 60fps, as the developers are going for more of a cinematic feel.
“Currently we do not aim [for] 60 frames per second. In a first person shooter that [surely] makes sense. Also fighting games are undoubtedly predestined for 60 frames. But for us, the cinematic experience is in the foreground [basically focus] – presented in full HD 1080p. In favor of spectacular effects and the highest resolution we restrict ourselves to a fluid 30 frames per second.”
Some of those effects, as I’ve detailed in a post about the Ready at Dawn engine, will be all sorts of deformation and destruction.
“..for example, the cover system. It is so sophisticated that you can not simply destroy covers but even targeted can shoot holes in this” … “Or, as a second example the interaction with metals: the player can deform things made ??of metal, which probably can not be change in other games. A possible result: Suddenly gaps and ways to do the level design, through which the player can assume.”
Lastly, and this makes me quite happy, Weerasuriya confirmed that the game is entirely single player, without a single bit of multiplayer shoe-horned to sully things up. Looking at it though, it probably could benefit from some co-op.
We’ll apparently be treated to some actual game footage later this month, which I’m rather keen to get a look at.

30fps, black bars top and bottom of screen aka cinematic aspect ratio, and no multi or co-op make me a lot less excited for this next gen exclusives :/

No co-op … It could not benefit from it. Enough with every game needing co-op….Can’t we just play games alone

Yeah I’m trolling because that’s what console gaming need, ANOTHER FPS at 30fps! “sigh”. Had high hopes for this, could’ve been something great, something unique but blehhhhh…….

Can’t you read? They said they AREN’T doing an FPS. They said 60FPS is needed in an FPS, but they are making a Third Person Shooter.

Up with Single Player, down with multiplayer!
I was curious about the 30fps thing, though from this interview it sounds like that was actually intended…I wonder if that’s true. Either way, can’t wait to see the video footage from the reveal!
