I don’t care what you say, I’m looking forward to Black Ops III

Every year the same things happen and with the release of the new Call of Duty just around the corner. I can feel it all starting again. As predictably as catching a politician with his hand in the cookie jar or a priest with his… no wait lets keep this family friendly for now.

Let’s just say that a new Call of Duty in November is something we have come to expect year on year and with it, a vocal minority of the Internet population tells us how the game is exactly the same and we are just being duped by a corporate marketing machine and really if we wanted to play Call of Duty we should just stick with Modern Warfare 2 which was probably the best one ever made.

Personally I don’t care if MW2 has the tightest multiplayer and is the most balanced experience. Like your dad used to try explain that he bought Hustler for the articles I actually do get Call of Duty every year for the single player experience. Those 7 -9 hours of over-the-top story telling and ridiculous plot twists are some of my favourite gaming moments of the year.

It’s totally unbelievable and the story is about as deep and well thought-out as Zuma’s defence of Nkandla and I don’t care. It’s fun and for me that is the most important thing.

The fact that it comes with a fantastic multiplayer experience that we can all enjoy, before the hard-core gamers get too damned good is just an added bonus for me.

This year Activision is releasing an early public beta for those that have pre-ordered and while I personally am against the idea of paying to enter a beta I do have to admit that I’m looking forward to shooting people in the face in 7 days time and getting some early access.

Yes it’s only 7 days until the beta opens on the PlayStation 4. The end of year madness is nearly upon us.

It’s nearly time to get our pew pew pew on. Unfortunately this year I’m going to be leading on the PS4, as they have the early exclusivity, and I’m just not used to using the Dualshock for shooting games. Which means I’m going to be terrible in the beginning. I also don’t have many friends on the PSN (woe is me) so if you are going to be in the beta please add me: Lazygamer_ZA.

So let us know in the comments below if you are also a fan, and for the love of all that is good on earth, please don’t call it Blops.

I still need to try the previous blops. Well, I don’t need to try blops. Actually, I don’t really want to try blops.
But Modern Warfare was cool 😛 But I didn’t like MW for the MP, I liked it for the SP.

The only COD I’ve played was the very first MoH clone.

I really enjoyed Modern Warfare. Had quite a cool campaign. Actually replayed it too. MW2 had a less inspired campaign and from there forward they just went with the MP.
I get that it’s where the money is, so I don’t blame them, it just really has nothing for me now to bother buying it.

I’ve always wanted to get those for the SP, but good ol’ Activision seems to think $20 is a great sale price. I’m not interested in paying for MP servers when all I want is the SP.

yes, unless CoD is the only MP game you’re going to play.
take a couple of weeks off from CoD and you wont be able to find games, the MMR system in the game works purely on a sliding scale, so with the small pool of local players, your MMR drops so fast, you have no one left to match up against.

so if you like to mix up your games, its not a viable option.

I took a few weeks off playing CoD:AW and havent been able to find a game since.
        same with Ghosts.
the local player pool is too small.

Why, oh why does it always sound as if they recorded the gunshots in a tin can though? If there’s one thing about a proper shooter, it’s that when you pull the trigger it should at least give you the illusion of a gun not only recoiling, but sounding as if it could rip your arm off… That’s something MoH always did right… The COD sound and bullet impacts have always seemed meh… In the middle of a gun battle you’d wonder who killed you with a pea shooter….

Thats where Battlefield beats COD hands down. The sound effects are so freakin good from the Tanks to the grenades to the guns.

Exactly, you can hear the bullet impacts around you, some particles actually hitting the floor from it… Oigh… I suppose that’s what you get from an engine that’s never really been overhauled…

Even those young kids, yelling obscenities about your mom sound super real. 😉
Seriously though, I also prefer the detail that goes into a BF game.

sound effects iin BF are vastly superior
but the gun feel and handling in CoD trumps just about anything.

well, maybe not actually, since ghosts, the gun handling / feel has been pretty different.
the kick from guns prior to ghosts was so solid and satisfying, but since ghosts, it feels like you’re shooting BBs, while BF gun feel has been getting better and better.

I agree with your BF statements, but disagree with the COD ones, BF has always been a superior game with regards to guns, from the emulated recoil to the actual sound of the weapon being fired, be it in a hall, a tea garden, a battlefield, on a bridge or even in a lounge… What CoD did right, was to create a game where the realism of shooting a gun was dumbed down to a pew pew and super soldiers with the ability to slow down time to enhance their reloading skills in realtime….

oh i wasnt talking about the feel/handling being realistic.
just more comfortable and feeling better. it made for a better game, while battlefield was a more realistic one.

CoD is super unrealistic, fast HP regen, always 100% accuracy down sights/scopes even when moving, perk systems etc.
purely mechanics based, CoD was a better game.
i wouldnt say it was dumbed down, it was just turned into a game, while BF went for accuracy.

both ghosts and AW ran like poop on my PC, with crossfired cards well above the minimum.
not to mention the terrible matchmaking system rendering MP obsolete after not playing for a few weeks.

ghosts and AW got such positive media feedback that it was automatically assumed that they would restore my faith in the games.
since i was so disappointed by both games, im not listening to anything any media has to say about CoD.
unfortunately, that includes lazygamer reviews and feedback aswell.
im just not going to buy into the “oh wow, this new CoD is a breath of fresh air to the franchise” said with every new iteration of the game.

Yup the terrible matchmaking in AW ruined what could’ve been an awesome MP experience. Combine that with my horrible internet at home and I could never even find a simple TDM game. I actually still need to test AW with my gtx970, last time I played it was with my old 560Ti.
I will be waiting to see how many people are online playing it before I decide.

the thing is, since MW2, matchmaking was super easy and casual, but since ghosts introduced their ranking system, to match you with “similarly skilled” players, its just not viable in smaller communities.
even at launch, there was at most 100 people online in SA at any given time.
but even a month after launch, that number had dropped to 50, now introduce a ranking system with a 50 person player pool and it would be impossible to find a game after a week or two away.

also havent tested the game since i got my 970, but unfortunately, i cant.
i would love to be able to jump in for a casual few rounds every now and then, but the sliding scale matchmaking, which pretty much only considers the number of games played, just puts me too far behind.
