Mouse and Keyboard. They’re the undisputed champions of input methods, as long as what you’re doing is office work. Still, for whatever reasons, many gamers favour these workplace implements as their controllers of choice – which is one of the many reasons those same people find making the jump to console gaming daunting. There are some games and genres where playing on a console is just better, not least of all because for the most part, they actually work.

Still, many gamers yearn for PC controls when they take to consoles. Peripheral maker Hori has just the thing. A mouse and keyboard combo for the PlayStation 4.

The Tactical Assault Commander for PlayStation 4is a newer version of the same thing they released for the PlayStation 3 – and works on both systems, bringing mouse and keyboard FPS controls to Sony’s consoles. It features a diminutive keyboard that maps the controller’s many buttons, along with a mouse that takes on the right analogue stick. The keyboard’s got a touch pad on the back of it, for whatever reason.

It will, however, be quite pricy. According to Amazon, you can expect to shell out 86 Pound Sterling, which translates in direct conversion to just under R1700, or one single stone to set around a particular firepool.

A better option, I think, would be to look at something like the XIM4, which is just about the only one of the “mouse and keyboard for console” adapters that actually feels and functions like a real mouse and keyboard would. As a plus, it allows you to use your own mouse and keyboard instead of Hori’s ones.

Still, if you’re traditionally a PC gamer and want to play some of the great console exclusives and can’t stomach using controllers, there are options available to you.

So that you can play PVP against someone that uses a controller and you’ll win more times than not

“HORI” roughly translates to “console try-hard”.

It’s for gaming… you don’t need a lot of keys for gaming. That’s the same reason there’s only a handful of buttons on a controller.

Was paraphrasing a movie there but in my defense you are wrong. The amount of buttons would be too little for most PC gaming. Cause PC gaming is largely based on hotkeys for nearly damn everything. I dare you to play decent Starcraft on that piece of crap.

You can get by without a million hotkey bindings. It’s mainly geared for FPS, not strategy. Even still, the basics of an RTS can be attained with a handful of buttons.

I’ll agree if you say it is geared for console FPS. Even your average PC version of any FPS has quite a bit more hotkeys than console buttons. Most people still would not touch Starcraft with that small amount of keys though.

actually, i was looking at that, thinking it was nearly perfect.
          so ergonomic.
although i think an extra row on top would be aces, just for the added macros.

ive been staring at the Razer Tartarus for months now, waiting for takealot to get stock again, which only has a few more buttons, and for RTS, RPG and moba gaming, that thing is a monster.
when you have limited keys, you have less chance of making mistakes and have more consistant macros.
especially when theres still extra keys on the mouse.

I completely moved away from Razer after I discovered their R2500 keyboards are as durable as as a stapled condom. Logitech G710+ and Logitech Proteus here I come! (hopefully thursday)

            razer are hit and miss.
some of there stuff is super sturdy, while others might as well have been made of paper. ive had mice and headphones last me years, but then ive also had some last me just a few months befor something gave out.
but the build quality on the tartarus is good.

im on a corsair binge atm for keyboards. solid as a rock, but difficult to keep clean.

Mouse and keyboard are superior. Without aim assist (which is pretty lame and requires no skills) the analog stick tracks too slowly and there’s basically only one tracking speed. Put a mouse player vs. a controller player (without aim assist) and I can guarantee the winner every time. Aim assist takes all of the skill out of aiming. Why would you want the CPU to assist you? Why not just allow it to play the whole game for you and you can just watch?

Trackpad on the back is probably to mirror the functionality of the trackpad on the PS4 controller.

Maybe if it was half the price.

Well this would be good for PvP on console definitely if it works properly but I would only use it for FPS nothing else!

Seems like a waste of money and console gaming isn’t really daunting, maybe if you are a 60-80yr old who never played a game in their life.

This beats the entire purpose of playing on a console. Why dont you just play on pc if you want to use a keyboard and mouse. I hope you feel like you are accomplishing something when you are playing an FPS game and feel like you are winning when you are playing against people using controllers.
