God of War 3 Remastered looks absolutely spectacular

I’m not entirely enamoured with the amount of attention remakes and remasters are getting on current-gen consoles. It sometimes seems like a complete waste to focus so much energy and time on upscaling and optimising old games to look better – so that the collective majority can maybe play it again. God of War falls under the banner of “Why is this getting remastered?”, but even I have to admit that it looks rather gorgeous.

God of War 3 Remastered is landing on PS4 in July, and I wouldn’t blame you for forgetting it was actually getting an overhaul. Following on from the disappointing reception of Ascension, God of War doesn’t feel like the blockbuster name that sells Sony consoles anymore – which makes this remaster even more of a head scratcher. It could be all smoke and mirrors for a possible new reveal at E3 – but for now we’re left with another version of, arguably, the best entry in the series yet.

And as much as I deplore the practice, I have to admit that it’s looking pretty slick. The texture upgrades and locked 60FPS really bring the game to life – especially when going chain to hook with the god of the underworld, Hades.

Those hooks! And we’re not even talking about Pudge here! The remaster brings a healthy dose of eye candy to the table, but I’m not sure it’s enough to convince me of a second purchase. To be honest, I feel that way about most remasters – but I do appreciate the chance it gives those who may have missed out on games like this on the previous generation.

God of War 3 Remastered is already available for pre-order ahead of its July 17th launch. Will you be rising through Mount Olympus once again, or has Kratos’ journey been wrapped up and finished for you for years already?

  1. Okay then I must be alone here but I thought GoW 3 didn’t really age that well. It doesn’t at all look impressive, to me in any case.

I played it through recently and really enjoyed it. Then again, I play a broad spectrum of games, some of which date back to the 80’s so I’m not too fussed about graphics if the game has solid gameplay.

Yeah, not too fussed either. Was never a fan of GoW though. It just doesn’t look as impressive as I’d thought it would but it has no bearing on the gameplay or enjoyment factor.

He could easily do what the 300 Spartans did at Thermopylae, win the battle and bang all their women afterwards.

Oh not jealous. But as a man, fighting for equal representation, I feel that image sets us back YEARS and YEARS.
It creates unhealthy perceptions that only men built like Greek Gods can have sex with two women multiple times over and over!
Men are not sex symbols only!

Again, same as with TLOU and Uncharted trilogy I’d recommend this if you jumped shipped from the 360 and have never played it. I would like to play this again but I payed full price for it back on the PS3 so they better not be greedy.

I don’t miss it, nor do I feel like I missed out. I got halfway through GoW, and it just never caught my fancy. Much like Capcom games. We all have our tastes. 🙂

For once, I tend to agree with you. I only finished GoW 1 because, at the time, R500.00 was a lot to waste on a game.

Besides being pretty it is a giant step backwards from GoW3… It made no sense for me in terms of the story and lore.

AAahhaa gents, although it didn’t make much sense & went backward it was a good game. the enemies were an upgrade to me, love bashing those elephant men. the variety of enemies. especially when insect queen starts infecting the Hecatonchires. I donno maybe I’m a fanboying but i loved & understood every single G.O.W…

Haha. Im also a huge fan man. Have Kratos tattooed on my leg. If it were a complete stand alone game then I would agree with you but the developers tried to make an “origin” story that didnt quite fit into the GoW lore. Thats an epic fail to me. Thats what made the series so epic and awesome in the first place.

XD so you are one of those guys having Katos Tat on leg. Nice.

I am indeed haha. As a game on its own it was good, sure. I just didnt like that fact that they deviated the story so much… That ruined it for me.

          May 20, 2015 at 12:12

I felt the same.. I didnt know where Ascension fits into the whole lore to begin with… I think it was meant to be a stand alone chronicles game… Type of a “WHAT IF??” game if you will.

If that were the case then my opinion would differ but the whole thing was advertised as a prequel to the 1st game. I get that they wanted to do something different but changing things to suit yourself and totally ignoring the lore is never a good idea. Especially with a franchise like this. I mean the whole idea of a prequel to GoW 1 is sketchy to begin with seeing as the first game WAS an origin story.

it was one of the best in my opinion. reason being is it changed so much during the course of the series. especially with three. then ascension came. it’s so much like G.O.W 1 but better. the puzzles, the scenery. it was so nostalgic of 1. & then there a bonus. there is a Doppelganger you get to use. i think it Fear Kratos. & He ABSOLUTE UNDENIABLY THROWS DOWN!!

I watched the whole video to me there were only small improvements like better looking texture and the effects but the rest seem to be the same, I wouldn’t call this a remastered edition but rather HD Edition. They should have rather remastered 1 and 2 then it would have made sensible sense but it’s Sony trying to milk this game hard.

I dont get it, If you watched until the end of the credits in the 3rd game they have a little cut scene that sets things up for another sequel. Why cant we get a proper next gen GoW4? Why must we get a re-master.

Maybe its the only way to get the funding for the next one?? Like what ND did with TLOU and the rumored UC trilogy remaster?

Maybe we’re underestimating just how expensive it really is to make current gen titles these days…

Maybe, but we had remastered editions of 1 and 2 on the PS3 and remastered versions of the PSP games for the PS3 again. How many more do they need to do before they have enough capital? If they had to release a next Gen GoW there is no doubt it would sell well… It doesn’t make much sense.
