Behold! Invokers Tournament is now available for PlayStation consoles

UNRELATED TO THIS GUY

Probably the first thing I ask myself when I get up in the morning is, “why are there so few MOBAs in the world?” Then I realise we’re not back in 2013, and that there are approximately 4536* different titles in existence now. Sorry, did I say 4536? I meant 4537. There is a new kid on the MOBA block.

That guy with lots of spells from Dota 2 is hosting a competition. It’s called Invokers Tournament, it’s free-to-play (with in-game transactions), and it’s now available on the PlayStation 4 and Vita, with a PlayStation 3 version coming soon. Here’s the launch trailer.

Seems interesting, although it doesn’t look like the “traditional” MOBA. What is the game all about?

In Invokers Tournament you will adopt the role of an Invoker, a warrior-mage who can transform into different avatars, each with their own special characteristics and abilities. These Invokers reach the City of Anundabar, where they will compete in its Tournaments against other players in quick 3v3 online matches full of action.

Judging by the website, there are two game modes to play. One seems to the typical destroy-the-enemy-core, with separate side objectives designed to give a team an advantage. The other is a lot simpler – the ever popular domination-type game, where points need to be controlled to accumulate score.

QUAS EXORT EXORT

I’m all for new games, I really am. I do think the MOBA market is one tough cookie to crack though, and it’s getting very, very crowded. It’s nigh impossible to uproot a player from their game of choice. I’d like to think I am open minded, but I will almost always go back to Dota 2 (although Heroes of the Storm has been receiving lots of my attention to be honest).

That being said, this is a console MOBA, meaning it may find a solid community away from the Master Race. What do you think? Does Invokers Tournament tickle your fancy? Also, thanks to Guild for the heads up.

  1. The game isn’t available on the SA PSN, you can grab it from a EU or US store. Downloaded and played a couple of matches. It’s fun too but there a few things lacking. I like that there is a single player mode to level up and get stronger, farm equipment and gold. Makes it nice not to be completely level 1 when you go into a public match.
But I have some big gripes with the game, first off you can not make a team unless you buy a subscription, cheapest being about R20 for a month. So you have to join randomized teams and can not play with friends. Secondly there is no in game comms so you can not plan anything with your team mates. First game I played, myself and another team mate didn’t know what was happening. Figured it out after a few minutes but my team mate had no clue. The game was ridiculous and our other team mate left. So comms would be a real big help in the game.
My other gripes are little things that add up, like sound effects and music is just crap. You get no warnings if your tower is under attack so you need to constantly watch mini-map. You can buy your way to the top if you want to spend a fortune on the game. It is riddled with in game transactions, you don’t need to and do well without it but definitely annoys me.
All in all, nice game but could be better. I don’t think I’ll play it again unless they do some updating like allowing teams and in game comms.

I Actually though Guardians was n cool game, to bad nobody played it, so you could almost never get a game. That, and the fact that I totally suck at moba games meant I didn’t play it for long.

TIL: face rolling a keyboard is a better way to get a random number than rand0m.org

It isn’t available, from what I read, on the SA PSN account. And I don’t have UK one 🙁
