The Witcher 3 review embargo dropped yesterday to unanimous praised and celebration. The crowning title in the Witcher trilogy seems to be as great as we were all expecting it to be, but there’s was a common undercurrent in most impressions. The PS4 version of the game, which was reviewed, seems to have struggled with the framerate at times. A problem that CD Projekt Red have already addressed.
Responding to concerned fans via Twitter, CD Projekt’s Community Coordinator, Marcin Mamot, explained that the issues have already been addressed for launch. The small day-one patch for the game will supposedly improve performance – a fix that potentially never made it in time for the code sent to reviewers on debug units.

So it seems like the few extra months weren’t able to iron all the bugs out, but the day-one patch for The Witcher 3 is still said to be rather minimal. The extra time has not gone to waste though – with most reviews praising the attention to detail under every single stone, past every village you encounter and in the make up of every creature you fight.
We still, unfortunately, have not got our hands on it, so it’ll be a while before our own review is up. Hopefully we’ll have some initial impressions for you to soak up in the meantime.

Pro active bug fixing…Before release even… This might sound weird, but I’m pretty sure that’s how things used to work, but I will praise them for a job well done and having the insight to rather deliver something they promised…A working and fantastic game….

2400VA inverter only supplies 1450W of power. My pc pulls 603 on half load plus 2 screens of about 30-50w each and router of about 15w and speakers of about 70w and then the extra power essential means I can boil a kettle if I shut down my pc or turn my server on for some Anime time and still download and play whatever I want. 🙂

Can’t remember the UPS as it is oldish but the inverter is R1600 and two 12V105AH deep cycle gel batteries are about R2500 each.

Modified sine wave vs Pure sine wave for gaming has been a moot point for a while now since a silver rating or higher PSU cleans the signal up and most smaller devices have proper adapters. Your main concern would be screens. A simple way to check that is.
Do you plug a kettle cord directly into your screen.
If the answer is yes then you may have an issue if no then modified sine wave all the way.
Luckely for me the new generation of LED screens run on adapters. 🙂

I was about to say, it doesn’t sound like a less expensive UPS/inverter, so it should be fine, whereas some of the older ones… well let’s just say that there were no low pass filters on the output of said UPSs and I saw a refrigerator lose it’s cool…a lot of it’s cool actually….

Yeah. I still wouldn’t use a modified inverter on a fridge even though never models should be fine I would not risk it.The load is too high and fridges can be temperamental.For a house inverter I would not go lower than a 5KVA pure sine wave grid tied inverter. Should runs lots – stove – geyser. And most of those are Solar capable so not too big a leap to go half off the grid.

That’s true, the sun follower solar systems price around R100k, which amounts to ten years at Eskom on the average household, but then you have to replace the batteries and maybe even the panels after the ten years have passed, depending on your maintenance intervals etc. but if I had the money to do that I would’ve jumped off of the grid a looong time ago already…

I wouldn’t put it at 15 yet though, 15 is still a theoretical value, in practice we usually find it to fall a little short, as it does depend on the amount of cycles they go through…That and 15 years is(for any form of electronic devices) a very long time… But they are the way to go, no doubt!

eskom pays you a levy if you go solar and then buys your excess to put back into the grid.
so that R100k gets shrunk a fair bit over teh years.
or something along those lines, not sure on the specifics, but there are perks to going solar.
stuff like solar geysers are now mandatory for new houses and certain alterations, hooking the excess into a battery isnt much of a muchness, so solar options are more available now than they ever have been. you’ll be seeing alot more solar panels on houses over the next few years.

The one issue with putting energy back into the grid, is that it requires synchronisation, for instance, the old ballasts for neon lights used to use a little starter, now when you throw the switch it’ll go tick tick tick and switch the light on, in simple terms, those three ticks are responsible for doing the switch on the return of the sine wave, causing it to attempt resets(this is a very, very simple way of explaining it), Now for instance, if you manage to hook up electricity to feed the grid, you will need a similar system to allow for the opposite, without a synchroniser, you will literally melt the coils of you generator into a solid piece of copper, the same will happen to the circuitry of an inverter(luckily though most of them are fitted with filters and fail safes). Also the compensation on building a house that is almost perfectly self sustainable won’t really make a substantial difference in getting to the self sustainable situation, the only motivation for it is to not be dependant on Eskom… this is the unfortunate side of it…

4 Hours a day every day for the last 2 weeks and nearly every day for the last 2 months.And to make it worse those 4 hours are between 6 and 10pm. I get home between 6 and 7 if I am lucky and then I can’t do jack. I got tired of living like a caveman and made a plan. Coffee and solar lights only get you so far. 🙁

I love how any other company releasing a day 1 patch and everyone goes ape shit to call them out for it. But CDPR does the same thing, literally, and everyone’s all like “they’re awesome. Look how they are so proactive.” Yeah, this is no different to the other day 1 patches, they’re still patching after the master went gold. To date I’ve not needed to patch a single Xbox 360 game. The new gen of consoles has completely nullified that benefit of consoles over the PC. Honestly, PC is just better, in every way. Screw the master race crap, because I love consoles too. But this always online, always patching world we live in means that consoles don’t have the same pros that they once had.

No I agree but fact remains a console should not need a patch … ever. QA should pick up any issues well before it goes gold. PC versions however have way too many variable and there will always be issues since almost every single part is different from pc to pc and this includes software.

if companies could meet deadlines without delivering broken games, with full knowledge that the game will be broken, then consoles wouldnt need to.
hopefully it looks like the trend of massive day one patches is on its way out though, with the new trend being DELAY ALL THE THINGS!
maybe in the future, companies will learn to work to deadlines more efficiently.

I believe the term used is Quality control, in some cases, it is completely absent, which is why I take my hat off to these guys, for the first time since Half Life 2 was launched we can decide whether we want the day one patch(for example) I remember having to sit at a friends’ house downloading the remaining install files for HL2 on a 56k line….I aged about 10 years in two nights, simply because I didn’t expect it. But in essence, that is the downside to PC gaming, inevitable day one patches…

There is a difference between downloading a 15GB compulsory patch and having the option to not download it at all, that point has to be raised, unfortunately… And no, it’s not a fanboy thing, in an industry where you stare at a label that says “This game requires a large amount of data” this is a revolution….

I hope its FIXED. Not made “Better” or “Improved”. Those are turd words.
Those words are what games like Unity input into their patch notes meanwhile in some areas of their map (Paris) the framerate still drops to like 25.
I’m really hoping they FIXED the problem and that we wont drop a single frame. Otherwise there will soon be a new “Used PS4, 6 months of use, great condition” ad on ebay or something…
There is literally no worthwhile reason for a game like this to not be able to AT LEAST run 30fps on a PS4.
I can’t blame the developers because I know that they are actually good developers… They aren’t Ubisoft…
However I also can’t blame the PS4 because the hardware is more than sufficient to run the game…
So what gives? Is it the devkits? The OS?
Here’s what I think. If the game comes out and still has issues I bet my money on the fact that the Devs don’t know the Playstation system well enough. Witcher 3 is their first game on the PS4. Meanwhile Witcher 2 was already out on the 360…
Here’s hoping this damn game comes out crystal clear… Of all games of 2015 if I could buy ONLY one I would go and buy this one… This for me is the GOTY 2015… Unless some other company has a nice surprise coming towards the end of this year 😛

Hell no the ps4 versions frame rate issues have not been fixed, i just installed and patched it the past hour. Looks like another shamelessly heartless console point. Only problem is that bringing it to the ps4 isnt much of a port, being that it basically a pc, so it makes it even more frustrating and irritating. I will return for Bloodborne, which i had to sell off previously bc i needed some quick cash, and dark souls 2 came out in the meantime.
