Best PS4 game

There once was a time when choosing a console meant choosing an entire set of games. Mario or Sonic? Such tough decisions. Now, most games come to most platforms, so it’s the exclusives that set them apart. This year’s PS4 exclusive will make your eyeballs water with glory.

And the winner is… The Last of Us: Remastered!

1313 The Last of Us 4

The best game on PS3 last year was remastered exquisitely. See the difference between frame rates and finally end the 30 vs 60 debate for yourself. But more than that, the story held up as the game was shifted from one generation to another, with improved graphics and all the DLC included in one shiny, fantastic package. There is a reason The Last of Us won so many awards – it tells a compelling story with believable characters and incredible visuals. If you missed this on PS3, don’t make that same mistake on the new console.

Honourable mentions:

Infamous: Second Son, Little Big Planet 3

Its remastered, not ported like Black Flag. GTAV is a re-issue.
When you consider the production costs of making it 60fps the game should have been full retail. But for R600 with DLC included you cant go wrong.

NOW BRING UNCHARTED TRILOGY REMASTERED TO THE PS4 and I will be a happy convert. Remember, 50% of the people on PS NETWORK never owned a PS3.

Yea, sigh, true though, this “remaster trend” we are going through is utterly annoying, personally I think they should be in a category on its own, like they did with the VGA’s (I think it was the VGA’s)

on the plus side, we are getting epic gems like Grim Fandango and Day of the Tenticle, which is EPIC!! (and I am waiting for a Soul Reaver Reboot or Remaster) but games need to be a certain “age” before it can be “remastered”, in my opinion.
(apologies on my original post that made it seem i was attacking PS4 specifically, I reread my comment and fresh-faced myself for myself at myself….

It’s just that good? I think it’s eligible because most people that didn’t own a PS3 now get to play it for the first time. If a game that released on the PS4 was remastered for the PS4 won the award I wouldn’t agree at all.

To think about it … Looking at all the awards given to games. Looking at those games and even their runners up or even the games that people mention that “should” get the awards.

The year 2014 was not a great year for gaming. It is actually a very poor year…that fact that Indie games gave us more than any AAA game released this year … Dragon Age Inquisition was pretty much for me the best … in my personal opinion 😉

2014 has been a terrible year for games yeah. In fact it’s probably the worst I’ve experienced in a long time. I bought 1 AAA title this year. 1. The rest just didn’t interest me enough to warrant a purchase.

The only other AAA title I am considering strongly is DA: Inquisition.

          • Raptor Rants A Lot

            December 19, 2014 at 09:12

This is just the problem. Schedules are too strict. I believe games should work as follows:

            1) Dev/Publisher announces game they are already working on. They can do this roughly a year before their internal “rough date of release”. (This thing of announcing a game before work has even begun must stop)
            2) They work on it and release semi regular updates every 2 or 3 months on progress. Still no date.
            3) The game goes “Semi-Gold”. Perhaps they can call it Silver. This is when the Devs and publishers planned on releasing internally. But the game mustn’t yet be put to Disc like it normally would at this point. Instead They must now set a public release date. This date must be calculated as follows: The date it would have been released had it been “true” gold status+ 2 or 3 months.

This “Silver” period is then the final polish period. All the game breaking bugs and patches they KNEW about that they planned on releasing post launch (The dreaded day 1 patch) then gets worked in to the code (Hence the extra 2 months or so).

Once the day 1 patch is worked in it goes officially Gold and starts being cut do disc and shipped to suppliers.

          • HvR

            December 19, 2014 at 09:02

Do think so, if it wasn’t for those delays we would have twice the number of Beta release, 40GB day one patches .

I don’t believe Remastered games should have a shot at game of the year. But that’s just my personal opinion.

That being said, I also kind of have to agree as it’s the only game that didn’t have massive day 1 issues or insane, game breaking glitches. Most of the release titles of the PS4 were either shoddy on release or fell far too short. So for a remastered game to be considered better than any of those… Yeah, well done devs on a crappy year of shoddy releases

But here’s the thing: a remaster is just the same game with a new coat of paint. It isn’t essentially a PS4 exclusive – which is what was supposed to be the requirements for the platform winners. This isn’t exclusive, this is a remaster. It’s a cashing in of the best PS3 game ever made.

I’m not doubting it’s amazing. I’m questioning why it wins game of the year on PS4, as a PS3 game with a new coat of paint?

            December 19, 2014 at 09:03

The problem I have is that it is not a new game. Handing it game of the year is akin to me handing Mass Effect 2 game of the year on PC because I now have a better graphics card this year than last year and I found Mass Effect 2 restocked at my local CNA.

good point. The Last of Us has the best Mo Cap and voice acting ever. Also, the facial animations are not the actors but tweaked by the character animators to enhance the scene even further. That is not normally done.

I’ve been meaning to get it for a while now actually, but for around that price I usually end up buying three or four games for pc instead. It’s my weakness.

Will Smith’s I am legend GOT OWNED.
The Road was the closest movie to compete with this 22hour experience.

I agree. Will Smith massacred a great story with such a sh!tty movie. After I saw it, I wept, it was that bad. And quickly reread the novel 🙂

It’s got to be that good if a Remastered version wins. What about Tomb Raider?

    oVg will be pleased. 😉

Seriously though, really good choice. It’s an amazing game – don’t get why there are some haters on it out there… But it’s seriously good and worth a playthrough for all who own a PS4. Amazing game!

I believe it is a great game, but it is sad that a remastered version of a excellent game wins PS4 game of the year. I think that is where there is disappointment generally.

best xbox one game on 11 comments lol. That says a lot.
Best PS4 game close to 90 comments so far.
Sounds about right. The Last of US = fuck Xbox One.

Next year PS4 is going to have lots of games fighting for game of the year. But this year Game of The Year, goes to Wii U with Bayonetta 2. But Lazygamer is going to pick shit like Dragon Age, the safe choose. Like EA deserves Game of The Year, fuck that.

Don’t Support DRM. Dragon Age with it’s DRM shit and DRM on top of the DRM. Fuck That. The Witcher 3 is coming.

Because people tend to bitch more than compliment.
“controversy” tends to get more attention.

“The Last of US = fuck Xbox One.”

Ye, the only way for Sony to beat MS is to use the same games they had last year.

Also, good job for judging a Game by its Publisher, DA:I deserves GotY.

and yes Dragon Age doesn’t deserve GOTY.

And no1 is commenting in the Xbox One game award article because fuck Xbox One.

Sony took a brilliant game and made it even better. Enjoy the 60fps beauty called The Last of US.

Oh fuck it. One more time. Fuck Xbox One.

I’m happy with this award. Only haters, are probably the ones who have not played it. Infamous was not as good, in any way. I will always take GTA as the winner though 🙂
