Dark-Souls PS4

You’d expect a next-gen console to have features in place that inspire future games to make use of them. And with the Playstation 4, that’s largely true. But it’s a console that has also been inspired to add some social interactivity, courtesy of one of the hardest ball-busting RPGs ever made.

Speaking on the PlayStation Blogcast, via Polygon, SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida explained that along with Dark Souls and Demons Souls being in his top ten games list, they were also responsible for some system features inspiration on the PS4.

“Lots of things Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls did, like leaving the message to other people asynchronously – so if you were connected, but not connected at the same time – all these things inspired us when we were designing the system features for PS4,” Yoshida said.

The sharing features. I enjoy so much watching people playing Dark Souls on YouTube. This game is perfect to learn from other players how to attack the same situations with very different strategy.

Yoshida could be referencing the Twitch and image sharing functions of the PS4, social influences which were originally inspired by Japanese message boards that had players posting tips and tricks to help solve puzzles in badly localised western games.

Reports of the PS4 also being inspired by Dark Souls to have unbeatable menu option bosses though, have yet to be verified.

  1. My favorite in Dark Souls was “Look out a hole” and there really was a hole.
