Resident Evil games have been a very different beast as of late, jumping out of horror and into action. With disastrous results, because I never ever want to play Resident Evil 6 again. One zombie horror game that I would go back to however? Resident Evil 4, which has just been tarted up with HD visuals.
Announced for PC, Resident Evil HD Ultimate Edition will be available from February 28 for $19.99/€19.99 and boasts the “highest visual fidelity ever with stunning HD running at a smooth 60 frames per second for the first time,” according to the press release sitting in my inbox.
Like any PC game getting a Steam release, it’ll also have Steam Achievements, Steam trading cards, global leaderboards, Steam Cloud and Steam Braaaaaaains. Here’s what you’ll need on your PC in order to get the action running at buttery-smooth rates:
Minimum System Requirements
- OS: Windows XP/ Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8
- Processor: Intel CoreTM2 Duo 2.4 Ghz or better, AMD AthlonTM X2 2.8 Ghz or better
- Memory: 2 GB RAM / Hard Disk Space: 15 GB free hard drive space
- Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS or better, ATI RadeonTM HD 4850 or better
- DirectX: 9.0c or above / Sound: Standard audio device
Recommended System Requirements
- OS: Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8
- Processor: Intel CoreTM 2 Quad 2.7 Ghz or better, AMD PhenomTM II X4 3 Ghz or better
- Memory: 4 GB RAM / Hard Disk Space: 15 GB free hard drive space
- Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 or better
Also, obligatory high-res screenshots, because I haven’t woken up yet and I need to wrap this article quickly so that I can enjoy my cup of tea and dammit I need to stop typing what I think.
For better or for worse, Resident Evil 4 was the turning point for the game franchise. It’s still a superb game, that goes beyond being a mere zombie-killing simulator. Whether it’s a necessary re-re-release is up for debate, but for anyone else who has yet to play the game, that dash of HD paint should be plenty enticing. And it has to be better than the original PC release of the game, which had to patch in effects and textures later, because they weren’t included in the game.

I’ve never played any of the RE games. Those specs are pretty lenient.

Yeah, RE 4 is extremely old

Screenshots don’t look bad at all.

Yeah the remake looks sweet, but dem textures are still horrible. Capcom just upscaled the reso instead of remaking everything

You’ve never played any? Like literally none of them since the beginning?

Yes, never had a console & never played any of the ones that came to PC.

See, being too loyal to the master race club means you miss out on life changing experiences like RE1 & 2. tsk tsk

Have to agree with you there – if ain’t played RE1 and RE2, then you ain’t lived yet (or at least appreciated life yet)! 🙂

That’s true, there’s a number of console games I’d have liked to play. Win some lose some 😉

Screw RE1 and 2 but the one game you need to at least borrow a console for is Last of Us.The only time my keyboard and mouse calloused hands touched a ps3 controller.

Downloaded RE4 on my XBox the other week… And man, it’s still as awesome as the day I first played it on my ol’ PS2! Such a great game! Loving playing it again.
Come on Capcom – we know you can bring us quality… So why don’t you?!

Have you plated RE: Revelations yet?
Rock789
January 22, 2014 at 09:56
Yup – I bought it and have started it… Damn fine RE game! Seriously – reminds me alot of RE1 and 2! Enjoying it so far. 🙂

It makes me happy to see this. Resident Evil: Revelations was a damn decent attempt to get back to what RE is supposed to be, pity they can’t just make a new one based on the accepted system!

I really enjoyed Revelations… Best attempt ever!!! Funny thing is that this was not even part of the mainstream and yet it was better than Re5 and Re6.
Capcom should really have a look of what they did here coz it was Awesome!

Sweet! I was actually about to buy this game about 3 months ago, but every review said it was a bad PC port! This is great news!
El Capitan del Blade
January 22, 2014 at 13:03
Not actually, the port ran smoothly, The only downside was lack of proper Keyboard/mouse support. (default was horrendous) but, patches mods fixed that. it worked great with my gamepad though….

Yeah I only recently got a 360 controller, so I suppose it would work awesome on that.

It will, also, the texture pack mods, make it real prettyness. (Also, you can pick up RE4 for like R50 retail, sometimes even bundled with DMC3)

So this is just the re release of the gamecube version on PC and not the PS2 version and then they call it HD version because they bumped up the resolution…. GJ Capcom!!!
With that said the previous pc release looked good enough after pc modders brought out new texture maps and so on… wont be buying this again on PC… oh wait I can install the pc one I have right here 🙂

January 22, 2014 at 13:14
Its pointless, The resolutions are already fine in the original and there is a HiRes texture pack already out for it, combine that will enb or sweetfx and it will most likely look better than this anyway.
