Titanfall is available for pre-order on Origin at an unreasonable price

You can now pre-order Titanfall on Origin, the price has been slashed by an impressive R50. Not that it makes the deal any better. The game made a big splash at E3 this year, winning every one of six Game Critics Awards nominations.

The game was hailed best of many things including Best PC Game and Best Online Multiplayer, yet it won’t have a single player campaign. This makes the pre-order price a little bit questionable. Other first-person-shooters that are also multiplayer centric but include above average single player campaigns, like Battlefield 4 costs less than Titanfall on Origin.

Currently gamers can pre-order Titanfall for R449.99, while the Battlefield 4 Standard Edition is available for R404.09 and the Digital Deluxe Edition for R485.09. The Battlefield franchise however has a reputation of being one of the best online shooters for many years, but Titanfall, is a complete new title. You’d think that compared to what you get in the Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe Edition for its price, Titanfall would be offering some pre-purchase incentives too. But it doesn’t.

While the game certainly looks fantastic, the price and the fact that it’s only available on Origin, I can’t see myself buying this game. Maybe this demo footage can convince us.

I’ve been getting back into ME3 again the last few days, and loving it.

Origin though? Man, there are a number of painful & unpleasant, yet oh so satisfying & deserved things I can think of to do to the assholes behind that crap.

I just wish I didn’t have to redownload my games every time I reinstall my PC. I don’t even have the option to “repair download” anymore. When I tried out Windows 8 and went back to Windows 7, it was a major pain in the butt.

You remember DarkSpore? They released it but the DVD version never worked, everyone who got it actually HAD to download the full game. Just another reason to hate Origin and EA.

With Origin titles? I lucked out with that with ME3, & had a backup I’d made of the install directory. I just copy-pasted that into the default location, ran the installer off the disc, and bam, 95% installed. I just needed about 100mb of updates.

This is why I get so mad, I direct Origin to the install folder, where all of the data is, yet it doesn’t recognise it O.o With Steam I only need to install Steam and it instantly sees all my Steam games, no need to fiddle with anything. Just works.

I get bored of Xcom very quickly, after a few days. Do not play for a month, then play again.

ME3, will buy all expansions and replay later this month or next month.

Wife and baby stuff (wife bought brand new name brands travel cot and pram for R600 each from toys r us, demo stock they wanted gone. Both cost R2K+ normally) are making me think twice about blowing money.

Wife wants to stop work. I am thinking of ways, instead of scaling back budget, to increase income. I think I will, ultimately, have to scale back though. – Not that gaming is our biggest expense or anything, eating out.

I’m on game #5 currently, loving it.

I’d like to revisit ME3 with all new expansions as well.

Score on the baby gear! Word of advice, nappies from ToysRUs are the cheapest (pamper and huggz).

As for your wife wanting to stop working, I can relate, my wife stopped working for 2 years raising my daughter, and although moolah was tight, we made it. Best experience, they bonded really well and that time you can never get back.

Perhaps she can work from home? (Mine started business, doing really well currently).

I’m earning ok money now, and with the business doing well, I can focus more on my gaming too 🙂

Good luck, when is she due?

You HAVE to get the Citadel DLC. No and ifs or butts. Just the little Grunt story made it worth the monies.

She is due in end November, early December.

Look, we are not poor, not rich, but we eat out a lot. that we must scale back on. My house is not small either, which comes with its own set of expenses (maintenance, stuff like that).

My wife wants to do her masters (because 3 degrees already is not enough right?) and wants to work as part time lecturer, but she has degrees in different fields, no masters. Still, we try. That would be ideal

thanks for the tips, appreciated. Eating out has always been my biggest vice (after I stopped drinking). Twice a week, some weekends, Saturday Lunch, Supper, Sunday as well. Like this weekend, breakfast with friends, our turn to pay (I think?), a few hundred gone on that.

I am just nervous for the future, because, well, it is not certain. Company going ok, but I need company to be A+++++, then future is secured. Not my company, but I have vested interests.

Nope, haven’t tried that at all, though I may pick it up on the Steam special, as I’m sure that’ll be one of the titles they discount. Alternatively, I’ll grab it when I get that PlayStationPlus thing towards the end of the year, as it’s .

I’m seriously loving ME3 again though. I only played it through once after release, unlike 1 & 2 which I clocked must be 4-5 times each, back to back. For the life of me I can’t understand why it’s taken me so long to get back in the 3 though, especially given how *good* I’m finding it now. And it’s not the ending, that really didn’t offend me at all. It’s got me all excited again to see where they take the franchise from here, I must say 🙂

Considering games are roughly R600+ nowadays.

But I think the point is this is a brand new franchise so it needs to find a hook to grab people and the fact that it is more expensive then BF means that not many people will jump over as easily.

Most PC games aren’t that expensive though. I cringe if I have to pay over R400 for a PC game to be honest. If it’s that much and is only multiplayer… Seems a bit extreme for a brand new title. At least BF is established, and people buying it know they will get their money’s worth.

It is actually, considering with the BF4 Digital Deluxe you get the base game (SP and MP), an expansion pack, beta access and 3 gold battlepacks and it costs R485. You get nothing with the Titanfall offer for R450. Just the base game, no SP. You can’t tell me R35 buys all that extra stuff for BF4, which is a reputable franchise.

The sad thing is people will still buy it, it does look like a great game (hope it stays that way). It’s unfair that people get ripped off like this, I mean, at least add some incentives like a collector’s edition. There are so many cool things that can be added, like a Titan statue for example.

Your point on the cool stuff that could be added is valid. What about something like Skylanders?

            Harsh world, this.

          • Yolanda Green

            July 11, 2013 at 10:07

It could be interesting to see players own a Skylanders like device, which stores your progress, rank, weapon layout etc on it, that you can just take to LAN and then plug and play instead of your entire PC, but I think PC gamers really prefer to have their rigs with them.

          • Brady miaau

            July 11, 2013 at 10:12

            Your point is seen.

But as a gamer I have specialized in beating the system, not in learning skills like when to jump, double jump and shoot.

Like in Civ 3, how you beat it on hard levels was to “cheat”, play the game mechanics against itself, to your best advantage.

Inflation adjusted, I am not sure that PC games have gotten much more expensive, on the whole. This R600 thing is out of hand, though. And If people pay that, it will get more out of hand.

Just a general comment on pricing.

I’ve been paying around R300 for games for as long as I can think of, off hand. And given I’ve been a PC gamer for over 20 years now…… It’s only the last few years (5 or so?) that we’ve started seeing new releases costing R400+, and that’s still more the exception than the rule, though less so now.

You’re getting a lot less in the box – what was standard edition is the new collectors edition, really – but in real terms PC gaming has become a whole lot cheaper over the years.

      • Brady miaau

        July 11, 2013 at 09:46

It has certainly. To maintain the +-R300 price tag, they removed the thick printed manuals and maps and stuff we used to get. Now on PDF, or no manual at all. Little things like that, that we complain about, but actually helped to keep the end sales price nice and even.

Wizardry IV, nice big box, great manual and stuff. Wizardry 8, box barely bigger CD’s, no real book. Great game, though.

I know, I know, some people like to collect the cool boxes an are proud of their collections. I am too, of mine, but the world has moved on.
