No strategy sex games for you as Seduce Me gets the banstick from Valve

Woa what a surprise! Valve removed en erotic game from Steam Greenlight last week and the only reply from the development studio is that people still think games are for children.

To sum up the story, No Reply Games submitted their game to Greenlight, it was immediately removed as a result of violating the terms of submitting a game to the platform, assuming it fell under the category of “offensive”. Now supposedly any one can add any games as long as it’s in compliance with the Greenlight guidelines which clearly state that no offensive material may be submitted.

Having seen the Seduce Me trailer, I haven’t cringed or been offended nearly as much as in some of the other indie horror games with extraordinary violence and questionable storylines, such as a mother wanting to sacrifice her son to Jesus and the explicit blood and gore shown in some games, enough to scar a child for life and even an adult. Not to mention the language and sexual insinuation and/or scenes in other games. By no means am I standing up for Seduce Me and saying yes, allow erotic games on Greenlight and in no way am I saying its evil and should be banned from the world. Just saying, it’s not THAT bad compared to other “acceptable games” containing disturbing content.

You can chop off this fellow’s head and see his insides spilling out, but DON’T PUT BLURRED OUT SEX SCENES IN A GAME. Just not that, anything but that. Quoting a comment on the Seduce Me Youtube video, “This game offends me. Not because it’s sexual, but because it looks really really boring.”

So after this happened, Co-Founder of No Reply Games Miriam Bellard responded in a press release saying the following: “We submitted the game on Thursday, when Steam Greenlight launched, but they took it down almost straight away.”

“Many people still view games as ‘for children’ in spite of the fact that the average gamer is 30 years old.”

Now hold your horses there lady, you obviously don’t know much about the gaming industry if you’re saying that. People in the industry and I think Valve especially amongst them clearly don’t have this view. Most games in fact are rated Mature and are made for a more grown up audience. Kind of not talking about Kinect dancing games here as they aren’t dominating the video games market.

I really wish that people would stop throwing around the idea that people think games are for children as every one else in the world that aren’t gamers or involved with gaming starts to realize that it isn’t. Hammering on that point just really doesn’t help your cause miss erotic game developer.

Bellard had told Kotaku that they received an email stating that their game was pulled off Greenlight. “We haven’t heard from Valve, but then we haven’t contacted them. The email we received said to contact Steam Support if ‘you believe your item has been banned mistakenly.” She said. Big ups to the studio living up to their studio name.

After this story came to light, Valve has announced that they will be charging $100 for developers to submit their games to Greenlight in the future. The word around the innernet town is that this will help filter out the games being submitted as “jokes” and/or probably avoid stuff like this happening.

Some details about seduce Me:

Seduce Me is an erotic game with light strategy gameplay, pre-rendered backgrounds, and hand painted images of glamourous women.

Explore Pietra’s luxury villa and meet its glamorous occupants. Do you have what it takes to seduce your way into the hearts and bedrooms of Seduce Me’s gorgeous women?

Here’s the trailer, it’s a bit NSFW. Not that much, but just a little bit.
