LoL the only MOBA at World Cyber Games

The World Cyber Games (WCG) 2013 has released the games for its event at the end of this year, and Dota 2 is notably absent.

This wasn’t an accident.  While no official comment has been released, according to a ‘reliable insider’, League of Legends (LoL) has replaced Dota 2.

“The reason WCG dropped Dota 2 is because there is an agreement made by Tencent (the company that owns Riot) and NeoTV (host of WCG) to not have Dota 2 wherever LoL is present.”

I’m curious to see if this starts some sort of battle of the MOBAs.  Perhaps, like the Olympics, we will add and subtract games to the eSports range.  For this particular competition, here is the list of games:

  • League of Legends
  • WarCraft 3: Frozen Throne
  • StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm
  • Crossfire

What do you think – is this a good representation of games for eSports? Which games would you select?

Not only is it more popular, it has a better community 😛 But jokes aside, its community is almost 10 times the size. Also, its the best MOBA 😛

LoL community is not nearly 10 times the size. Get with reality. And LoL sucks! dotA has and always will be the best!

          LoL community > 32mil

          Dota2 community just hit 3.2mil

10 times the size seems pretty accurate. I was estimating, didn’t realize how close my estimate was.

Get with reality. Dota2 doesn’t suck, but LoL is and will continue to be the best!

Its quite nice that Dota 2 is not even released yet ….

You are aware its in beta ? To compare a beta game with a well established game just doesnt make sense.

To be honest I still think the sole reason lol is more popular is it’s earlier release. And Dota2 is still technically in beta as far as i can see.
For people like me who previously played the original Dota lol was just there as an alternative so i made the switch, and i can’t be the only one..if it was dota2 that was released first i’m pretty sure i would be playing that right now

Agreed 100 Percent, I think The original DOTA was insanely popular. and LoL was the interim between DOTA and DOTA 2, but you have to agree that LoL is actually a really good game, and a REAL game at that too, DOTA 2 Doesn’t seem to be full fledged yet like you mentioned, it is in Beta, and until it is out of that Beta stage, LoL will continue to dominate DOTA 2, but DOTA is still pretty popular

Pretty stupid move from tencent/riot to be honest…shutting down the competition is fine but not in a selfish manner like that
    and crossfire…well..really?
