StarCraft Ghost might still be coming

Ghost

Over ten years ago, Blizzard announced a spin-off to its StarCraft real-time strategy game, titled Ghost. It was to be a stealthy third person shooter focused on female protagonist, Nova – the titular Ghost. It was never released – but it might still!

Developed, originally, by Nihilistic (the genius developers who brought you Resistance: Burning Skies and Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified on the Vita), and intended for a 2003, the game was huit by numerous delays.

In 2004, it was assigned a new developer in the way of Swingin’ Ape Studios (responsible for not very much at all). Swingin’ ape was later acquired by Blizzard – and Ghost, which caused a hubbub of excitement, was ultimately put on hold. It was never outright cancelled though – and now Blizzard suggests that it may still be a thing.

“It’s on hold. It has never been cancelled,” Blizzard Entertainment’s Matthew Burger said to OPM.

When asked if it could still be released, Burger replied with a simple “Maybe.”

That’s not exactly tacit confirmation that the game is in active development – but it’s not exactly a flat-out denial either. While I still wouldn’t advise getting ones hopes up too much, consider just how magnificent Ghost could be as a next-gen game.

Only reason I would want this is for an expansion on the mythos and more insight into Ghosts

@Geoff Aren’t you a bit late with the Aprils fool jokes?

Jokes aside, If they are not careful, then this might go the same way as D3, by keeping you in suspense for years, and then turning out to be rubbish..

I never understood why they shelved this game, and while a part of me is excited to hear that it might be back, I’m also a little worried that the game could fall back into that horrible spiral of vapourware, or worse, turn out like the last Duke Nukem.

The problem is Blizzard has been ruining their own franchises lately. Diablo 3 was not even a game… they spent so much time trying to figure out how to pump their customers for cash that they forgot there was supposed to be a game in there somewhere. WoW has been getting worse every expansion for years now and starcraft is kind of the only thing they have not managed to completely ruin yet.

I would be slightly worried that StarCraft ghost would be like… starwars episode one.
