Batman: Arkham Knight PC specs revealed

After the Witcher 3, the next AAA game that’s on most gamers’ lists is very probably Batman: Arkham Knight. The third in the game series (according to Rocksteady’s Sefton Hill, who disavows any knowledge of Arkham Origins), it pits the big, bad Batman against an unknown, mysterious foe. PC gamers likewise, have to battle a foe of their own when playing the game; their PC’s. Many are wondering if their PCs will have what it takes to be the Bat when we return to Arkham in June. Wonder no more. Nvidia’s revealed the sorts of machines you’ll need to fight crime.

According to the GeForce Site, here are the minimum, recommended, and  ULTRA specs.

Minimum System Requirements:

  • OS: Win 7 SP1, Win 8.1 (64-bit Operating System Required)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-750, 2.67 GHz | AMD Phenom II X4 965, 3.4 GHz
  • Memory: 6 GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
  • Graphics Memory: 2 GB
  • DirectX®: 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet Connection Required
  • Hard Drive Space: 45 GB

Recommended System Requirements

  • OS: Win 7 SP1, Win 8.1 (64-bit Operating System Required)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-3770, 3.4 GHz | AMD FX-8350, 4.0 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760
  • Graphics Memory: 3 GB
  • DirectX®: 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet Connection Required
  • Hard Drive Space: 55 GB

ULTRA System Requirements

  • OS: Win 7 SP1, Win 8.1 (64-bit Operating System Required)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-3770, 3.4 GHz | AMD FX-8350, 4.0 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980
  • Graphics Memory: 3 GB
  • DirectX®: 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet Connection Required
  • Hard Drive Space: 55 GB

It’s all fairly reasonable, right up until you get to Ultra, where you’re expected to be as rich as Bruce Wayne to play the game. on the AMD side of life, you’re probably looking at something like an HD7850 or R9 270X for minimum, a Radeon R9 280 or thereabouts for recommended, and eleven R9 290X’s duct-taped together for Ultra. Rocksteady’s games have always always looked and played a little better on Team Green’s hardware, starting up as they do with that “Way it’s meant to be played” splash screen. The Batman games also make exemplary use of Nvidia’s PhysX,  so if you’re upgrading just for this it may be better to go with Nvidia. That said, by the time this game’s out, AMD may have revealed what it plans to do with its R9 300 cards – which may knock the current price to performance champ out of the park.

In somewhat related news, it seems that though this game and The Witcher 3 use DX11, support for DX12 may be patched in. That’s what MSI says, anyway.

“The most exciting part of Windows 10 for gamers is the introduction of DirectX 12. You are likely to start seeing the benefits of the new graphics technology already in The Witcher 3, Batman: Arkham Knight and more games released later this year. Some CPU-bound games like MMO’s are able get a performance bump of up to 50% according to Microsoft.”

So I think a 970 with a light OC and some game tweaking should manage most of Ultra. Happy dance.

at 1080p, I think you could probably manage Ultra without breaking too much of a sweat.

Seems like DX12 is going to have a marked improvement on PC gaming. I’m guessing the current cards won’t have DX12 implementation?

Current DX11 cards will support DX12. 400, 500, 600, 700 and 900 series from nvidia. HD 6000, 7000 Rx 200, Rx 300 series from AMD. The 900 and Rx 300 will support more DX12 features though.

A 760 is at best 10-15fps faster so I guess I’ll get mostly recommended settings on my R9 270X.
