In just a few days the 9th annual rAge, South Africa’s premier computer, gaming and technology expo  kicks off, showcasing some of the hottest released and upcoming games, gadgets and technology. If you’re not excited, you really should be; this year’s event, sponsored by Samsung,  promises to be bigger and better.

Here’s what you can look forward to seeing.

From EA; you’ll be able to get your hands on FIFA 12, which has been raking in pretty amazing review scores; Snowboard junkies delight SSX; The very anticipated modern combat shooter Battlefield 3, the new, story focused Need for Speed the Run and take a look at one of my most anticipated games of 2012, Mass Effect 3.

Our friends at Megarom, who typically go all out will be showing off the new Tomb Raider reboot, Agent 47’s return in Hitman: Absolution. You’ll also get to check out Jackie  Estacado’s violent streak in The Darkness 2, get your hoop on with NBA2K12, and check out the brilliant collectible min-fig kid-focused  Skylanders.  You’ll also get to take a peek at Ubisoft’s biggest future hits, like Assassins Creed Revolution, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, global dance phenomenon Just Dance 3 and one of my favourite games from E3,  Rayman Origins. To round it out, they’ll also be showing  F1 2011 for the petrol heads, and Final Fantasy XIII-2 for RPG aficionados.

Nintendo will also have its own stand this year, showing off unreleased titles for 3DS and the Wii. Here’s your first chance to see  Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Resident Evil Revelations and Metal Gear Solid 3D for the 3DS; and insanely good-looking, motion-plus enhanced The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Wii. for those of a more casual disposition, you’ll get to enjoy a break on the tropical Kawawii Island with Go Vacation Wii. Nintendo will also be hosting Street Fighter IV 3DS and Starfox 64 3D competitions and Streetpass events for those of you already sporting 3DS’. From 1 to 3pm, Lazygamer readers will also be able to catch us at Nintendo’s stand from 1 t 3pm on Saturday – so make sure you come say hi.

Nu Metro will be showing off Batman’s newest capers in Arkham City, the sequel to what’s been officially crowned as the best super hero game ever made. you can also have a chat with Rocksteady Studios’ Paulc Crocker the developer of Batman: Arkham City at their stand on Friday and Saturday. You’ll also get to see Lord of the Rings : The War in the North, and the delightfully charming Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster.

Ster Kinekor, purveyors of all things PlayStation and along with a heft stable of third-party distributors tells me it’ll be showcasing a host of its biggest IP’s. You’ll get the opportunity to go hands on with Street Fighter X Tekken and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, Dragon’s Dogma, Asura’s Wrath –  and possibly even a glimpse of the PlayStation Vita, the PSP’s sexy successor.

Microsoft will once again be showing of Kinect’s  motion-sensing technology, with games like Kinect Star Wars, Kinect Disneyland Adventures, Kinect Sport 2 and Dance Central 2. You’ll also get to take a look at Twisted Pixel’s genius The Gunstringer, and our game of the moment, Gears of War 3.

That’s just the game distributors; you’ll also find tons of PC and console hardware and peripherals, competitions, trading card gaming, board games,a cosplay competition and of course, there’s the huge, record-breaking LAN that happens every year. For aspiring game developers, the local Gamedev community will be hosting a ton of talks and Q&A sessions.

In short, there’s really very little reason for gamers not go to rAge this year. rAge kicks off this Friday, is open all weekend, and costs R50 per day ticket, R80 for a weekend pass, or R160 for a family pass (2 adults & 2 children). Kids under 6 enter for free, and so could you.
