Assassin’s Creed 3’s sold 7 million copies

The last couple of Assassin’s Creed games were pretty fantastic. that sort of thing has an effect on the perception of quality in future titles bearing the series name. It’s no surprise then that many, many people bought the very latest Assassin’s Creed.

Ubisoft has now announced that the game, which I found to be rather disappointing overall, has become the company’s fastest selling game in its 26 year history. It’s now moved over 7 million units, leaving at least 6 million people bored out of their minds. It’s quite unfortunate that Far Cry 2 was so awful – or the accolade might now belong to its pretty damned fantastic sequel.

“We are delighted with the performance of Assassin’s Creed 3 this Christmas,” said Ubisoft UK managing director Rob Cooper.

“This is a beautiful and epic game of exceptional quality and we’re pleased that our fans have responded so well to the brand new universe, storyline and game experience.”

Exceptional quality? This is the game that got a huge day one patch to fix game-breaking bugs? Yup! Still, it’s damned impressive for a franchise that only started this generation, and doesn’t have “Call of Duty” at the front of it.

Anyway, to celebrate, Ubisoft’s released a lovely infographic with some pretty interesting information. Those 7 million Assassin’s Creed 3 players have collectively spent a rather ludicrous 82 Centuries playing just the single player portion of the game, and at least half of that is just tutorial.
