Nintendo’s next-generation console is coming later this year. For something that’s pretty much around the corner (my, but how time flies!) we know relatively little about the system’s guts, the hardware that powers the tablet-driven system. Some developers are saying it’s on par with current gen systems  – but that its specs haven’t quite been locked down yet.

Like Nintendo’s last system, it’s all about the controller – and one developer who’s quite excited by the possibilities it offers is Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford – who says that the Wii U version of his upcoming Alien Colonial Marines will be the definitive one.

“The Wii U version has so much more to offer. No other platform can do what the Wii U can do,” he said to Eurogamer.

“If you love 360 games, you are not used to being in a world where you have this new interface. But once you get used to that, you imagine the possibilities; there are some opportunities that are just not possible on any platform that does not have that device.”

Pitchford was unable to supply exact information of just how the Wii U’s unique controller will be utilised – but says they’re definitely going to be using in in interesting ways.

"I don’t want to give spoilers away on some of the things we are thinking of or things we have actually implemented already, but there are a lot of cool opportunities with that device that are going to make a very unique and compelling experience on that platform, he said.

“I think it will not be too long [before] Nintendo opens up their kimono a little bit more about that platform and where it is going, we will be there right with them talking about how Aliens is using it.”

How would you use the tablet? Beyond the obvious choice of the using the tablet’s screen as a map and Xenomorph proximity scanner (which, admittedly would be AWESOME), I can’t really think of anything.
