2014 has been all about the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. But really, Nintendo may have just had the very best year when it came down to it. With a solid line-up, Nintendo was knocking sixes all year long across a wide variety of genres and franchises. But if you’re looking for that one game that will define the Wii U, then the choice was obvious.
And the winner is…Bayonetta 2!
Quite simply the very best game that Nintendo had a hand in this year, Bayonetta 2 was a stylish romp through sequel territory that was polished to a glossy finish and punctuated with the action tighter than your jeans after a Christmas lunch. In your face, ballsy and boasting visuals that put other, drabber games to shame, Bayonetta 2 was also packed with plenty of other content.
A remastered version of the first game that was included as a bonus, co-op climax action and boss fights that would break your TV screen in half. It’s also the kind of game that allows you to take Bayonetta to bed, thanks to some seamless offscreen play on the Wii U Gamepad controller.
A hair-raising experience and the quintessential Wii U game of 2014.
Honourable mentions
Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart

I said it 2 months ago and I do not even own a Wii U.
Bayonetta 2 gets GOTY across all platforms for 2014 hands down. Just watch the game awards over the next few weeks.
NINTENDO is back baby.

It can’t be GOTY because it didn’t have any 20GB patches. The true symbol of GOTY quality.

Those games are the usual tick in the box paint by numbers.
Bayonatta is one of kind, fresh, vibrant, fun and risky.
Gamspot is one of many American Gaming sites that gave it a 10/10. The last time a game received that was 4 years ago. Famutsu also placed it into the Hall of Fame so on and so on.

Don’t look now, but Nintendo is back in a big way, not that I ever jumped off the bandwagon, but let’s be honest, there were some doubts there. Bayonetta 2, Smash, Kart, enough said. Those are three of the best games of all time released in one year. Nintendo understands quality.
