Nintendo receives a huge blow in the UK

Nintendo has been struggling with the sales of their Nintendo Wii U worldwide and locally they received quite a knock-back when a group of retailers including Toys R Us offloaded all their local stock for R999 and are no longer stocking the console.

And now the UK has taken our lead and the second largest grocer in the UK, ASDA, has reportedly stopped ordering new Nintendo products and games and will now judge each title on a case by case basis. The latest case being Pikmin which has stormed to the number 2 spot on the UK sales charts but one that ASDA refused to stock.

What’s even more surprising is that they have also stopped stocking the Nintendo 3DS which sells more in the UK that the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. So it appears someone in the ASDA chain has decided to dislike Nintendo and this could be more personal than financial right now.

Either way it’s not going to help Nintendo turn around the Wii-U’s fortunes.

I can understand the Wii-U part if the sales aren’t enough to justify keeping stock.

But the 3DS? Really? Why stop something that is selling well?

Have people forgotten how to business lately?

Kinda. But on the other hand (dankie Naas) it is justice for the fact that they milk their franchises more than Activision could ever hope to do. Hardware won’t sell itself (the Wii was a fluke!), you need good quality games. Mario Kart 17, another remake of a Zelda game, Mario Party 13, Newest New New Super Mario Bros and one new Mario game won’t do it.

Agreed. Not to mention the marketing of the WiiU was atrocious.

I think Nintendo are in trouble, this could be the end of them, or at least the Wii U. they may have to go back to the drawing board and give it one more shot if they can afford to.

They should release the damn console without the stupidly expensive tablet controller. The second screen is nice and all that but it’s not a necessity .
