New Assassin's Creed will start with a bang

Apparently, Ubisoft has learned from its mistakes of ACIII.  In an interview with OXM, creative director Jean Guesdon explained that it comes down to the type of game:

For us, it all comes down to the fact that this game takes place in a pirate setting. Should a pirate-set game start off with a bang? Yes, it should… so we are making sure our game puts you right in the middle of the action from the get go. Should a Pirate-set game allow you to explore the whole world it offers, to feel like a true pirate sailing the Caribbean seas? Yes, it should. So we are definitely structuring the main path in order to make it possible to give the tools and the world to the player fairly early on in the game.

So hopefully this means we won’t have to play for ages before entering our actual character.  Speaking of which, it appears that they realized that Connor was a tool and made ACIII almost unplayable.  Edward, on the other hand, will be a proper pirate!

Edward’s motivations are purely selfish: he fights for glory. He has the skills of an Assassin, but he doesn’t use them for the Creed. He is, at heart, a pirate. And he’s not a “good” pirate like you see in children’s tales – he is a criminal with a taste for infamy.

This should mean more morally reprehensible activities that we all missed!  It looks like there might still be hope for the AC series.  Although, with a release date within a month of other next-gen, open-world titles like GTA V and Watch Dogs, it will be interesting to see what the new AC can bring to the genre.

I think we can all agree that Ezio has been the best of the assassins so far. Italian flair playa!
