The International Compendium stretches for $10 million

Hulk stretch

Dota 2 players have spent a lot of money on the Compendium for The International 4. It’s not just about buying that Compendium, it’s about upgrading it, too. Now, Valve has added a whole new bunch of stretch goals. Are you ready to reach?

I told you this Compendium was selling like hot cakes. It was only a matter of time until it smashed through the $6 million stretch goal. But fear not, Valve has added a whole bunch of new ones, now grabbing for $10 million. That’s quite a prize pool for those top players. Of course, people don’t just buy the Compendium as a way to throw money at the winners – it also makes their own gameplay more enjoyable. So, what are the new rewards to reach for?

  • Daily Hero Challenge
  • Alternate Voice
  • Favorite Hero Challenge
  • Model Update Vote
  • Multi-Kill Banner
  • Afterparty Broadcast
  • New Upgraded Creeps
  • A->Z Challenge Support
  • Victory Prediction Taunt

You know what my victory prediction is? That this won’t be the end of stretch goals for this Compendium. The tournament is still a ways away – China and Europe haven’t even completed their qualifiers yet. Will LGD Gaming and TongFu return to the International? Could we see Mousesports pulling through again? Or will there be a whole new cast of characters? While people are thinking and worrying about that, they will carry on throwing money at the Compendium, upgrading to grab top rewards. I could easily see the International breaking through the $10 million prize pool mark. Will people finally take eSports seriously then? Will it go mainstream?

But you see. He must blink in behind the defender. He musn’t go and blink in front of the defender. He should be able to straighten the attack before switching to the target on his outside.

Someone should so cut together some supersport stuff so looks like Nick Mallet and Naas are ranting about Dota 2 😀

Compendium gets you access to follow the games leading up to and during the event. You also get additional digital content based on your compendiums level. What’s not to get? 10 dollars to follow the biggest event of the year. You can of course dish out extra to upgrade the levels which is why the goals have been smashed.

I used to watch people play games, back when I didn’t own a console/PC or when we took turns playing. Nowadays it’s a sport so people watch. Apparently it’s gotten so big you can pay to watch. I can’t watch people play games nor would I pay for the privilege.

Obviously this is the future seeing the support and it seems I’m getting to old for gaming because I still don’t get it. Can I rather go back to playing Mario Bros?

You don’t need to pay to watch The International. It’s a free tournament. You can help support the tournament by buying a compendium which *gasp* actually gives you stuff!

I played Dota a couple of times, I know right, still trying to find out why it’s so popular. But like I said, maybe I’m getting to old.

It’s kind of like football. Or any sport really. You’re either into it or you’re not. Or you educate yourself on how the game works/what the rules of the game are and then get yourself into it :P. Otherwise football is just a bunch of men/women kicking a ball around, tennis is a bunch of men/woman orgasming every time they hit the ball and golf is a bunch of old men hunched over :P.

Valve should rather give us our bonuses first before promising more 😉

Valve should rather be making HL3 than silly multiplayer games.

I’ll bet you Dota 2 will still be played even when HL4 is out

No, by that time Dota 10 will start being phased out 🙁
