Security check

It seems that everyone is upping their game when it comes to account security – maybe it’s because tons of people keep on getting hacked, but increased authentication is becoming the norm. Now, League of Legends is adding email verification, but they’ll make it worth your while.

In a post on the League of Legends site, they explain:

As part of ongoing work to keep all Summoners’ accounts safe, we’re rolling out email verification for any and all account credential changes. Once activated by players, this system will message your verified email whenever a change is made to your account, ensuring that you know if any suspicious activity is happening.

[…] This is just a first step – we’re looking into many more security features to keep your account details safe like SMS protection and more, so stay tuned.

Wow, so it starts with email verification and might even move on to SMS. Looks like they’re taking a page from Blizzard’s book. Still, it’s an important move from them and should hopefully prevent future security breaches and problems… unless of course their database of email addresses gets hacked and spammed.

In an effort to push for people to get their accounts email verified, LoL is offering an incentive. That’s right, everyone who establishes a verified email account will get a 4-win IP boost. So, go improve your security, and also score some bonus IP. Sounds like a win-win situation – something otherwise impossible in LoL. Here’s hoping that login still stays convenient – security often comes at the cost of ease of use.

It would be to over-sensitive people. I found it to be a funny little jab at general stereotyping.

Nah Man, there is nothing wrong with the header pic. it is a great stab at the stereotyping. People are way too concerned with being PC…

EDIT: darnit, did not see your comment @Gr8_Balls_o_Fire

Glad to see they want to up security. Just a pitty that no system on the net is safe. Wana stay safe? Don’t touch the internet. Ever. That is sadly impossible
