Bloodstained gets a Wii U version, might see a Vita release too

Side-scrolling platformers with RPG elements are dead, at least, that’s what publishers told Koji Igarashi – the man behind the Castlevania genre – before turning him away. How silly they were. After meeting several dead ends, Igarashi took to Kickstarter with his vision of a spiritual successor to the series he poured so much time into over his game development career. This new game is called Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It smashed its $500k Kickstarter goal in a matter of hours, and has since gone on to raise $3 million. Reaching this milestone means it will get a Wii U release, and if the money keeps pouring in, a Vita version too.

First off, if you know nothing about the game, I recommend you watch this:

How can you not want to throw money at the project after watching such a sincere request for help from Igarashi?

Anyways, the announcement of a Wii U version was made over on the official Kickstarter page (via Polygon):

With the latest Paypal total — roughly $62,000 from 800 backers — we’ve surpassed $3mm. You did it, and we’re proud to have been standing nearby with a look of stunned disbelief on our faces.

DOLLA DOLLA

The Wii U version joins PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A Vita version will be added to that list… if the project reaches the $3.5 million milestone:

There are 11 days before the campaign ends. I don’t see how these goals won’t be met, especially considering how positive the response to the project has been overall.

Personally, if I were to get Bloodstained, I would get it on handheld for sure. I don’t know why, but I find I enjoy side-scrollers on the go far more than on the big screen (99% of the time ).

Let’s hope the game is good, else publishers will use it as an example of why NOT to fund side-scrolling action RPGs. Will you be getting it? Have you already thrown money at the Kickstarter?

I guess WiiU owners were desperate for games (like myself) which dont feature Mario for the 1000th time. However I dont see it reaching the Vita port simply because the momentum is dying down and the WiiU port only happened due to Nintendo fans support.

Also I think its worth pointing out that regardless how good the game is in the end; the support shown by gamers should be noted by companies as to what we want. Companies need to stop shunning away their creative talent and stop letting a bunch of suits make decisions. The gap between gamers and game companies are becoming wider by the year.

Oh yeah for sure 🙂 there is no doubting the support this game is getting. I just worry that if it turns out to be meh, publishers will be like “Yeah told you so.. .games like this don’t work anymore.”

I have a feeling it will be rad though 🙂 so no worries!
