PS Plus subscriptions triple since PS4 launch

Triple

We have sung the praises of PS Plus for a long time, now. We rave about the fantastic games each month, and the great value for money. Sure, PS4 requires PS Plus if you want to play with others, but that can’t be the only factor driving sales, can it?

According to this tweet coming out of the launch of the PS Vita Slim yesterday, PS Plus has shown enormous growth in the last few months:

You know what I love about PS Plus? Even though I don’t yet have a PS4, I can claim the free games against my account. This means that when I eventually get my new console, I can jam Don’t Starve and Resogun like Geoff and Darryn. There are so many great, free games on PS4, PS3 and PSVita. In reality, you could probably get away with never buying a single game and just living off of the free ones each month. This is part of what makes getting a PSVita so appealing to me as well – I’m already getting free games for it, I might as well have the device to play them. Perhaps this is why subscriptions have grown – people may not have thought it worthwhile when they were only getting games for PS3, but now they can get free games on a variety of platforms.

Sony seems to be doing very well with this launch. Their console keeps selling, their subscriptions are climbing, and their tech is getting better feedback than Microsoft’s It’s still early days, but so far they seem to be coming out ahead in this generation. Of course, it is far too soon to tell.

Also, steam has had 1 free game that I’ve known of, ever. PS+ gets a free game every month. That’s pretty awesome.

Admiral, you may not pay for steam, but you pay for the games on it… ive been on PS+ since march last year, spent about R500 odd on the sub and now have in excess of R2000+ worth of PS Games for my PS3, Vita and soon to be purchased PS4. The Vita games alone are flippin expensive.
Dont get me wrong, I indulge in most of the Steam sales (Autumn sale incoming :O), but in terms of Value for money on the console platforms, which are usually more expensive, There is no substitute for PS+.

I agree. PS+ is great value for money. As much as I enjoy Steam, when you compare it to PS+ or gog, they come across as a bit stingy with regards to free games. Then again the countless sales make up for that, especially when you can spend R500 over a big sale & end up with a ton of good games.

Yeah, but only one that you can really count on being a title you’d have happily paid for if it was just reduced to £10-£20. But 12 of those a year for free definitely makes up the subscription cost. I signed up in June of last year. Unfortunately I missed out on Infamous 2 & Hitman Absolution, but I did get Uncharted 3 and Catherine that was enough to justify my £40. And every game after felt like a bonus and I can honestly say, I’ve been a gamer all my life, but I’ve never gamed so much, enjoyed my gaming so much or spent so much money on gaming before PlayStation Plus.

Too bad this happened when DMC happens to be one of the free titles. Don’t want the people to think badly of the quality of the free games every month.

Firstly Zoe – get a PS4…the Xbox One can wait…well we have no choice anyway.

And yes PS+ is phenomenal…them games come out faster than I can keep up with playing them. But just cue them and when time comes, its there!
