Satisfaction guaranteed

Good Old Games, the awesome website that lets you play fantastic new and old games on current operating systems, has officially launched their return policy. Considering that they are also fully DRM-free with their distribution, this is pretty awesome and gives me hope for the future of digital distribution.

Every game available on GOG.com has a Money Back Guarantee, regardless of your country of residence. They explain that it’s to show their confidence in the games available – if you buy a game and it doesn’t work on your system despite meeting requirements, or has game breaking bugs, you shouldn’t have to pay for it. How does it work?

If, within 30 days after the purchase of your game, you experience technical problems or game-breaking bugs that prevent you from finishing your game, contact our customer support. They will do their best to help you fix the problem and if, at the end of their attempts to solve the problem your game is still not working, we’ll give you back your money.

Sounds simple enough, but it really is quite revolutionary, especially considering that there’s no DRM. So, in essence they are trusting in their community as there is no way to “turn off” the game following the return. That said, if the game is broken, I’m not sure why you would carry on playing it.

This actually goes above and beyond what brick and mortar retail shops can do – most game stores can’t accept returns on broken games, otherwise we’d see a bunch of people returning their copies of Battlefield 4. I’m a big fan of GoG.com and I’m excited to see what they’re doing for gamers; it’s fantastic to have a site where you can get the old games that you miss, as well as the new games that you crave, all with a strict DRM-free policy.
