6) Dante (Devil May Cry series)

Effeminate-featured, Japanese-style characters with Justin Bieber hair aren’t my type. However, half-demon Dante certainly has a major following, and is well regarded for his high coolness factor – along with his gay centrefold looks.

7) Dominic Santiago (Gears of War series)

Ladies with a lust for big, burly, battle hardened men (think rugby props), look no further than this soldier. Not as psychologically warped as Kratos, and prettier than his commander Marcus, you wish this devoted family man always had your back.

8 ) Kenshi (Mortal Kombat series)

He may not rank among the most famous, and well established, Mortal Kombat characters, but this blind swordsman is certainly one of the franchise’s hottest heroes. For women with darker tastes, brooding, vengeful loners like Kenshi will always be a hit.

9) Alan Wake (Alan Wake)

Dreamy and steamy are the best words to describe this John Stamos look-alike (modelled on Finnish actor Ilkka Villi). I’m sure there were plenty of female gamers out there who wished that amnesiac author Alan failed to find his missing wife.

10) Ezio (Assassin’s Creed II)

Under that assassin’s hood is one damn fine looking man. Sure the Italian nobleman is an unapologetic player, but we can still fantasise about this deadly, smooth-tongued bad boy – who only looks better with age. Bello, bello!

Honourable mentions:

Sam Fisher (Splinter Cell series), Rico Rodriguez (Just Cause series), Ryu (Street Fighter series). Out of interest characters who have crossed over to gaming from other media were excluded from this list. So, alas, no Batman, Wolverine or Riddick…
