DayZ will only be finished in 2016

DayZ is a notoriously good idea wrapped in a currently broken, slow moving mess of a game. It’s a bit unfair to expect much more though, since the game is still in some early development stages. The mod turned fully fledged project has been on Early Access for some time now, and it’s going to be an even longer wait until the full final release.

The DayZ development team and Bohemia Interactive have revealed their development road map for 2015, pencilling in some major changes to the game that will be introduced over the next few months. These changes will eventually take the game into a more expansive beta stage, with some substantial content and gameplay mechanics finally making their debut.

Q1 2015

Basic vehicles – Advanced loot distribution – New renderer – New Zombie AI – Basic stealth system (zombies and animals) – Diseases

Q2 2015

Advanced vehicles (repair and modifications) – Advanced animals (life cycle, group behavior) – Player statistics – New UI – Player stamina – Dynamic events

Q3 2015

Traps – Barricading – Character life span + soft skills – Animal predators + birds – Aerial transport – Console prototype

Q4 2015

Animal companions – Steam community integration – Construction (base building) – BETA version, expected price 34,99 EUR / 43,99 USD

Additional weapons, vehicles and crafting items have also been promised for every single monthly update. The roadmap sounds great for anyone who owns the game already, and especially for those who feel that the game has been somewhat stagnant lately. The only real downer is the little bit at the end, which confirms that DayZ will probably only be finished in 2016.

As well as the roadmap, we are thrilled to announce that the first half of 2016 will see our final release version and release from Steam Early Access, with our final price point of 39.99 EUR / 49.99 USD.

That’s an incredibly long way off, and it makes me think that DayZ jumped the gun a little on their Early Access program to secure players before the fad had dried up. I suspect that might happen anyway with the full release being so far off, with only the most diehard fans sticking around afterwards. Will you be one of those players?

Cause the Beta has been delayed by almost year. Guess Sony should not have told everyone a release date.

Don’t get me wrong. Ill still buy H1Z1 but I don’t expect much.No game who ever claimed it would kill DayZ mod has so far come close and that includes DayZ SA.

Well it’s built by the same people that made Planetside 2 so that can only mean good things

Actually there was a discussion about it. It may not be a good thing for various reason. The most common being too many people on one map.

I haven’t followed any of the discussions, but Ive checked a couple of videos and that looks pretty good.

The major concern is that if the number of people > Zombies then the apocalypse is pretty much over. 🙂

DayZ SA is a pile of broken crap even compared to the Arma 3 mods Breaking Point, Epoch etc and its 1 or 2 guys working on those projects.

DayZ SA uses the Arma 2 engine and uses the assets of the arma 2 engine. The DayZ SA is just a mod running on the Arma 2 engine.

Yes its still early access … so lets compare.

Arma 3 Breaking point (AKA Arma 3 DayZ)

            2 Developers
Been in development a year or so after DayZ SA came out.
            Vehicles working
            Base Building
Most guns available comapred to what 10 or so in DayZ SA.
            Working Vehicles.
            Animal Taming.
            Working Zombies.
            etc

            DayZ Sa

Entire development studio behind it and still a broken piece of crap. Last time I played all the Zombies was invisible due to a fix for some other shit they did????? I hope they get there eventually but at the moment they fix one thing and break 20 other things.

At the moment its a lost cause.

            Oh btw

Arma 3 Epoch has been out for 2 months and already surpasses dayz sa with guns and content and stability.

DayZ SA is does not use RV 2 anymore. In fact they are devving their own engine called infusion or fision or something like that.

Still I prefer Epoch Mod over anything right now. Waiting patiently for the Arma 3 one.

Wow the PR people got you

Here is the kicker the new engine is a modified Arma 2 engine they are not making a new engine. Go and read the twitter feed all they say is that they made so much changes to the Arma 2 engine that it cant really be called arma 2 engine anymore.

So no they are not making a new engine. They are simply re branding the Arma 2 engine.

          • Kromas, Guardian of Cenarius

            November 27, 2014 at 12:25

Oh boy. I know that. Devving an engine is from scratch takes years. Do you seriously think CoD:Ghosts “New” engine is actually built from scratch??!! What about BF4?

And no if the engine was “rebranded” it would not be capable of DX11

Not sure why you hate DayZ so much.I suggest you try and play something else for a while and come back later. That is what I do with most of my ea games. recently dead state got a pretty cool update and was fun to play again for a while as well as the Forest.

COD Ghosts runs on the ID Tech 3 Engine aka Quake 3 engine whats your point ?

            November 27, 2014 at 12:27

PR people called it a new engine at E3.

Arma 2 engine with DirectX 10 or 11 support is still a Arma 2 engine. Its still running on a single cpu thread … stil lthe same gun mechanics, graphics, bugs, ghosting or glitching etc.

No DirectX or 64bit support will fix those ….

So lets see 2016 makes this game 5 years in development. Thats not that bad but hey they are using the assets of Arma 2 and the engine so what are they spending 3 years on so far ?

I hope it works one day as I really like the game and we have a team of 13 guys playing but actions speaks louder than words and currently their actions prove over and over that they are either in over their head or they actually just have 2 or 3 guys working on it.

BI are unifying Enforce and RV into a single engine thats all its not a new engine.

If its not done by 2016 then DayZ SA would have been in development for 6 years thats pretty long for not creating a engine from scratch and reusing current assets in the engine.

Heck thats freaking long even if you create your own engine.

Never said I hate them its pretty obvious t hat the are incompetent. I can see with my own eyes how they fuck up patch after patch.

You obviously have rose tinted goggles on.

Someone on the Dayz forums once said it feels like the guys at BI are working on Dayz in their free time. LoL. I agree.

Soon someone is going to do awesome Mod for Arma 3 will make Dayz SA irrelevant. I play both, and have hopes for a fantastic Dayz one day, but Arma 3 and its mods is such a great game now, I don’t bother with Dayz anymore.

I bought this on steam what feels like a billion years ago when it was in alpha.
I played it probably 3hours, then just got fed up with everything that is broken and crap.

For me, the map is just too big and is killing server performance, they can make is half the size and it will still be huge.

I bought this on launch day. Here I am a year later with just shy of 500 hours on the game.

Sure, development is slow and the game gets a bit long in the tooth if you’re the kind of person that’s looking for some sort of “jump in and kill” action, because it’s far from that. You need patience for this game.

However, bugs and flaws aside, it’s brilliant. I’ve gotten much more than my money’s worth from the DayZ standalone and it’s still growing in development and scope.

I’m confident in Bohemia and that even though DayZ may still be 2 years away from a build the devs are happy to release, by the time it’s fully-fledged, it’s going to blow everyone’s socks off.

They are completely redesigning the game engine from something that was not exactly made for what the people wanted. Most people think you just press and button and … VOILA … its done.

It is big, very very big. Three factions fighting on a continent. Not a map, a continent. One of four to be precise. Battles are can be HUGE. Easily 100 vs 100 at some point. Also it never ends except when they swap the starting waypoints once a week. Everything can be unlocked without paying cash except for the cosmetics. The only issue is local servers but Ive been jamming it on PC for 44days and 4hours for the one faction It’s that much fun.

You forgot to mention that a level 1 can wipe his ass with you so easily, @jonahcash:disqus its basically pay to win all the time, but the big fights can be awesome, especially when you and the army waiting to go to the next base

Nope, sorry. It needs an end game. Vehicles ,bases, tent storage, all that Jazz.
