Star Trek is broken, but “works fine” for devs

The new Star Trek game, by all accounts, isn’t very good. In fact, it’s pretty much downright awful. On top of that, the game is a glitchy, buggy nigh unplayable mess.Worse is that the PC version of the game is beset by connection issues – unforgivable for a game that’s meant to be played co-operatively. none of that matters though, because according to one of the game’s producers, it works fine for him.

On the game’s official hub on steam, users have been moaning about the game just won’t connect to the servers, make the game’s rather central co-op feature moot. One user, a “Kenneth Lindenbaum,” however says that the game “Works fine for me,” adding that the “Game uses Steam servers.”

Fan favourite Angry Joe did a little digging, finding that Kenneth Lindenbaum has already racked up hundreds of hours of gameplay, and getting achievements for the game as early as January 16 – quite some time before the game’s release. A little further prodding on LinkedIn found that Mr Lindenbaum is actually the senior producer for the game at developer Digital Extremes, making his little addition to the hub just come off a bit cocky.

“Works for me, so YOU must be the problem!” It echoes Adam Orth’s unfortunate “#dealwithit” statement, which may have resulted in him becoming a former Microsoft employee.

Here’s what Angry Joe had to say about it all. Funnily enough, not enough critics have played the game for it to have a Metacritic score – but the user score is disquietingly high, with a number of 10’s, 9’s and similar scores, which has many thinking it’s all a ruse by Namco and Digital Extremes employees to make the game look better than it is.

Destructoid’s Jim Sterling has had similar issues with the game, saying it’s essentially broken. Take a look.

Hahahah! I said this thing would be a steaming pile of batshit. The only people giving it 10s and 9s are Trekkies. I’m also considered a Trekkie, and I wouldn’t vomit on this excuse of a game.

Some fans will enjoy anything no matter what. And you know what… If they enjoy it then good for them 🙂 I just hope that the devs don’t take this as a sign that it’s ok to deliver sub par games 🙁

Agreed, if they enjoy it than good for them. I am just RAGE because I want a fucking decent Star Trek game! Why is it they can create a brilliant universe in Mass Effect, but they can’t actually port a fucking IP that has been established for ages?!

I hear you. And let’s face it. It’s the same rage that Star Wars fans feel. The universe is set. It’s all there wrapped up in pretty ribbons yet the amount of really good games are only a small handful.

And Star Trek’s universe is just as big and diverse and has endless possibilities. So why a mediocre game?

I have a theory. The developers KNOW there are fans out there that will buy their shovelware bullshit, so they don’t invest any money into the creation/story/mechanics. Makes me SICK.

You see! This is what I was talking about in the previous Cliffy article. It’s not that players rage against players! It’s that they don’t know where else to aim the rage about Devs making very bad, buggy games and then acting like nothing is wrong and everyone is simply just full of BS

It does not, too bad we can’t direct it to someone who cares enough to do something about it.

My word, not yet another let down after the mess that was Aliens. My word, the amount of shit games out lately… And the developers wonder why they are not selling games.

Someone mentioned it the other day and I think they are right, people are just getting smarter now about these buggy games released.

So pissed off, this Star Trek game sounded so promising but it sounds like a fuck up of a game now.

Agreed, brilliant FPS series but unfortunately Activision owns the rights, Ritual games was shutdown in 2007 and Raven soft does wet work for the Modern Warfare games ( GUI etc) so its highly unlikely.

And that’s why I pirate any game that doesn’t come out as a finished product. But appart from that…It’s a movie licensed game… Why even bother?

Love this guys angry reviews, very satirical and not the expense of the game ( I’m looking at you Zero Punctuation guy). Only complaint is poor guy doesn’t seem to get around to doing more reviews.

I enjoyed this game immensely. Pretty graphics, humor was spot on. Couldn’t care less about the glitches every now and then, plus they weren’t game wrecking.
