Dirty Bomb enters open beta… but not for us

I’m an old school FPS fan, I cut my teeth on Doom, Wolfenstein, Unreal Tournament and the original Quake and while CS:Go definitely captures some of that experience I never really got hooked into that –  so when I started seeing the video’s for Dirty Bomb I got quite excited.

To me the game feels a bit like a cross between Team Fortress and Unreal Tournament and I was definitely getting myself to be hyped up about it. If you aren’t sure what I’m talking about then take a look at this brand new trailer for recently-announced open beta.

Looks awesome right? So when I was done watching the video I clicked the link to their site here and then smashed that Play free on Steam button.

Only to be met with this:

After doing some investigating it appears that they are rolling out regions as we go but to be honest I severely doubt we are high on their list of regions to be supported. I get that they do this to protect the experience of the majority of players but I would much rather they added regional matchmaking rather than simply lock out regions.

We definitely have enough gamers in our region to get some great games going but even if we go around the region restrictions we would likely end up gaming against people in America or Australia… or the clan from Mother Russia; which would make the experience pretty painful.

So while the game looks great and is something I’m personally very interested in I don’t expect we will be seeing it any time soon in deepest darkest Africa.
